5 New Theme The children will start the new theme next Monday.

6 Children’s School Improvement Plan

7 Spelling Spelling is a key school improvement priority this year.
Children will be developing their phonics and spelling knowledge daily in class, linked to letter patterns and common rules. This will be followed up at home and we ask for your support in this.

8 Reading and homework Maths Homework – Mathletics weekly
Reading – 20mins daily Spelling – weekly list of ten spellings Writing - fortnightly Children are to bring their reading records and books every day.

9 Attendance and Punctuality
Doors open at 8.50am. School starts at 9.00am and the registers close at this time. Children arriving in the classroom after 9.00am will be marked as late. School attendance: XXX National ( ): 95.2% Attendance dropping below 90% results in school contacting parents with improvements expected.

10 Uniform Please ensure that children are following the school uniform code as set out in the letter sent out before the summer holidays, which can also be viewed on the website.

11 Parents Evening New style parents evening for Year 6.
15 minute meetings Held between Miss Honey, Mrs Fox, parents and children. A sign up sheet will be sent out. Meetings in the afternoons and into the evenings.

12 SATS Week beginning: 11th May 2015 Reading Comprehension, Maths, SPAG
SATs meeting will be held in Spring Term.

13 House system All children are allocated to a House. The system will:
Allow children to nurture and support their peers. Give children more responsibility. Enable younger pupils to learn from older. Encourage wider friendship groupings.

14 House system Promote leadership skills.
Provide children with opportunities to participate in inter house competitions and celebrations. Through a points system, promote even higher standards of punctuality, effort and behaviour. Promote pride and belonging to the House and to the school.

15 House system A cup will be awarded to the House with the most points at the end of the year. Children will have a range of opportunities to work in their Houses and to access inter-House competitions as well as having regular House assemblies. In KS2, children will come to lunch in their Houses. Children earn points through StSheep record, Learner of the Week, homework projects, lunchtime certificates, consistently completing homework. Most punctual house; not identifying individuals. House with most punctuality will win each week.

16 Key successes for last year…
Very positive academic outcomes for all year groups. External verification of our overall school performance Sports successes including reaching the National Hockey finals and doing very well in football, cricket and netball tournaments. The Arts: gaining the ArtsMark with a resoundingly positive report. Work displayed in St. Ives and Hinchingbrooke Hospital.

17 Key successes from last year
Winning and coming highly commended in writing competitions. Retaining the Green Flag. Visitors who come to learn from us, including other schools and Cambridge University, with whom we have a very strong partnership. Developing our practice with another local school to enable us to be forward thinking and constantly evaluating how we teach and learn. Gaining a fantastic extension to our lovely school!

18 Looking forward to a fantastic year ahead…!
Working in a new building and inspiring learning environment. Continuing to develop our pupils and teachers as outstanding learners. More opportunities for music. Developing house teams and events across the school. Continuing with out high level of commitment to sport and the arts.

19 Hilltop Adults: Miss Honey, Mrs Jessop, Mrs Lew
Will be leaving school at 9am on Wednesday. Please have children at school in good time and bring bags into the hall. Children will come and be registered, toileted and then get on bus. You are welcome to stay and wave. Arrive at Hilltop at and will have our own lunch when we arrive. Will unpack and then start activities.

20 Rooms are comfortable and are in Seaview House
Rooms are comfortable and are in Seaview House. We have not had the final room sizes through yet so the children are yet to be distributed in their rooms. Two activities run in the morning and afternoon sessions, and additionally an evening activity. Activities: Crates, Archery, Assault Course, Low Ropes, Big Zipper, Team tasks, Powerfan Dinner at 6.15 and then evening activities and tuck shop before bed at 9. Breakfast at 8.30

21 Medicines – please ensure that they are named and ready on Wednesday morning – please bring them in to Mrs Lew in the morning rather than pack them in the case. Please ensure that chdn do not bring mobile phones – if there is an emergency contact the school mobile phone. It will only cause issues, or get lost. Similarly, please don’t bring iPods, electronic games, etc. They can bring a camera, but not a camera phone.

22 Kit – Go through kit list.
Children may bring cuddly toys or small games, such as cards or top trumps, for entertainment in their rooms.
