1 Willow Class F2 Curriculum Newsletter
Autumn Dates for your diary Tuesday 7th November - open morning for new parents and Knossington and Somerby Preschool. Library bus – Thursday November 16th. Children can take books out with their own card or use the school library card. Thursday 30th November – visit to Woolsthorpe Manor, the birthplace of Sir Isaac Newton. Friday 1st December – we shall be singing at the Melton lights switch on. Thursday 14th December – KS1 Nativity 6pm in the village hall. This term our topic is The Speed of Light. We shall be busy exploring different aspects of light and dark, as well as getting ready for Christmas! Any questions? Please ask if you have any queries or concerns regarding your child. As it is not always possible to have a detailed conversation in a morning, a meeting can be arranged after school if required. Mrs Hickton

Communication and Language Listening and Attention Listen to a range of stories and to visitors in class. Understanding Being a talk partner in class discussions. Speaking Share their adventures with Paddington, the class bear, with other members of the class. Physical Development Moving and Handling PE** – In PE we will be playing tag rugby and creating our own dances. Health & Self-Care Staying safe (fireworks and crossing the road) **PE will be on a Thursday and Friday afternoon each week. Please ensure your child has their PE kit in school on these days. Mathematics Numbers Adding and subtracting using numicon shapes Counting objects (up to 20) Beginning to recognise and write some numerals up to 15. Space, Shape and Measures Ordering objects by weight and capacity Measuring time in simple ways. Forest School Forest school will continue to be on a Wednesday morning this year at Ab Kettleby school. Please ensure your child arrives at school wearing warm clothes , waterproofs and wellies and brings their uniform with them to change into at lunchtime.

3 Understanding the world Expressive Arts and Design
Literacy This half term we shall be reading and re-telling a range of stories together including Paddington at the Circus, Owl Babies and a selection of rhymes and poems. In our daily phonics lessons we will be continuing to learn to read and write new sounds from Phase 2 of Letters and Sounds. Understanding the world People and Communities Festivals of light – Diwali, Hanukkah and Christmas Which stories are special and why? The World Investigating light and dark including mirrors and shadows Nocturnal animals Seasonal changes. Technology Practising keyboard and word processing skills to make a Christmas card. Expressive Arts and Design Exploring & Using Media and Materials Fluorescent firework pictures. Christmas cards “Picasso style” owl pictures Using pencil shading to create light and dark. Being Imaginative Songs and dances linked to celebrations (Diwali and Christmas) Acting out our own stories in the role play area. Reading at home Your child will be given both a reading book and a sharing book from school. Please read at home with your child at least 3 times a week and write your comments in their reading record.
