FLEXOR RETINACULUM AND CARPAL TUNNEL

Definition: flexor retinaculum is thickened deep fascia ant to wrist joint. Carpal tunnel is the space between flexor retinaculum and carpal bones. Attachement:- Lat: scaphoid tubercle,trapezium crest. Med: pisiform, hamate hook. Structures passing superficial:- 1) Ulnar N. 2) Ulnar A. 3) Palmis longus.

Structures passing deep:
1) Flexor digitorum superficialis. 2) Flexer digitorum profundus. 3) Median N. 4) Flexor pollicis longus. 5) Flexor carpi radialis (in special compartement). Applied anatomy: Carpal tunnel syndrome: compression of median N in carpal tunnel (usually due to carpal bone dislocation, inflammation of tendons or overstreched hand).
