Work Experience – The Process
Students/Tutors/WEX Team – launch WEX process, research businesses/organisations for preferred choices Students to find placements – active search by students to find their placements WEX Team supply documentation & H&S checks Complete Booklets during WEX placement Feedback to tutors/WEX team

What happens next? After parents evening, discussion with parents/Students Tutor/Careers mentoring – Information Advice and Guidance Deadline for ‘expression of interest’ choice to tutors/WEX team Monday 4 December 2017 Deadline for completion of WEX process and all documentation to WEX Team Friday 16 March 2018

Confirmation of Placement
WEX form needs to be signed by all parties – student, employer and parent H&S checks will need to be signed off by FormtheFuture before any placement is authorised Confirmation to student/parents of placement List of confirmed placement held at HMC

It’s a competitive world! The importance of employability skills and attributes Relevant to 6th Form Colleges, apprenticeships and university Start thinking about building a portfolio of opportunities, work experience and extra-curricular activities

FAQs Students encouraged to find placements themselves – however support as required Students should find placements within surrounding areas, Cambridge, Haverhill, Saffron Walden, Newmarket – WEX Team have lots of contacts – students are encouraged to ask about specific sectors of employment

Apprenticeship Standards: what are they
Across the UK 49% of businesses reported difficulty in recruiting apprenticeships 84% of businesses surveyed do not feel the quality of careers advice young people receive in schools is good enough. Firms believe there is a lack of awareness among young people of the education routes they need to take to enter particular careers (50%)
