Open Ocean: Temperate Waters
By: Greg Loucas and Bryce Shulman
2
Animals in Temperate Waters
There are a variety of animals that live in the ocean Some examples of animals include most ocean fish (including sharks and rays), man-o'-war, jellyfish, sea turtles, seals, coral, and zooplankton. Some animals that are found on the bottom live in the euphotic zone, which is defined in terms of light, not depth.

Plants :Temperate Ocean Biome
Primary producers such as plankton and algae absorb energy from the sun which herbivores consume. such herbivores include Baleen Whales (humpback), marine invertebrates (sea urchins, sea cucumbers) and shellfish (limpets, oysters)
5
Plants Sea grass Green Algae Thalassia Red Algae Phytoplankton

8
Ocean Depths and zones Epipelagic zone : m Mesopelagic zone : m Bathypelagic zone m Most living organisms cannot live past the Bathypelagic zone Therefore, most living organisms are positioned near the top.
9
Physical Properties Temperate ocean waters on average have a temperature of 10-18°C Different weather patterns depending on the season of the year Winds vary, but likely high out at sea In the euqhotic zone, there is enough light penetrating the ocean for photosynthesis to take place. In other words many plants and other organisms live in this zone where food is abundant. Photosynthesis in the oceans creates approximately 90% of the Earth's oxygen. Most of the oxygen is produced by the organism phytoplankton.

Composition of Oceans Diagram showing why some oceans have more nutrients from phytoplankton which create chlorophyll

Soil Type: Sand, maybe? Rocks? Coral? There’s a lot of wind underwater Weather: Constant flooding, rain patterns all of the time Wet Climate
