5. What is a multiplier?
As the name suggests, the multiplier is a multiplying number which we use in percentages..

6. Percentages with multipliers
Example % of 765
The multiplier for this percentage is 0.63 ( notice it’s the same as the decimal equivalent)
So 63% of 765 = 0.63 x 765 =
Remember – to change a percentage to a decimal you have to divide it by 100!

8. Example: Find Increased Value
A packet of crisps normally weighs 125g. The packet is increased in weight by 20%. What is the new weight of the packet of crisps?
We will always consider our original value to be our 100%
So 125g is our 100%
The new weight of the packet is now at 100% + 20% = 120%
The multiplier of 120% = 1.20
Therefore the new packet weighs 1.20 x 125 = 150g

9. Example: Find Decreased Value
A pair of trainers are on sale, the sign says 20% off. They were originally €60.
What is the discounted price?
We will always consider our original value to be our 100%
So €60 is our 100%
The new price of the trainers is now at 100% - 20% = 80%
The multiplier of 80% = 0.8
Therefore the discounted price is 0.8 x 60 = €48

10. In general .. First find the multiplier:
