Goals To introduce people to the Victorian serial novel
To expand understanding of popular Victorian serial authors To improve the user's writing skills To encourage people to write their own serial novels To create an online newsletter every week for the public which have original work published alongside classic serials

Functions The five main functions of this app are:
An online discussion board, both for new serials and classic Victorian serials Notetaking and highlighting pieces Writing challenges that encourage understanding of classic Victorian serials Ask Dickens newsletter that includes classic serials, literary criticism, and new serials.

The Two Modes of Serialize
Read & Discuss Mode Read chapters of new and classic serials Discuss new and classic serials in discussion board Highlight and create notes on pieces, show notes other users have made Ask Dickens for definitions and quick facts Create Mode Create projects, outline, write chapters, submit to the newsletter Daily writing challenge encouraging creators to use certain vocabulary or Victorian themes in their works Ask Dickens for suggestions if you get stuck on what should happen next!

Read & Discuss This is a posting in the Classic Serial section of Chapter 1 of Great Expectations by Charles Dickens. Chapters of each novel would be posted individually to its own thread. Only administrators will be able to create topics, but users will be able to reply to these threads with an interpretation of a passage taken from this chapter. An example is on the next slide.

Read & Discuss Highlight mode is ideal for the student or anyone looking to get more than pure enjoyment out of serials. You can jot down your own personal notes, definitions, thoughts, and inferences as you read. You can also view notes that other readers have made public on the chapter to inform your own thoughts.

Create Mode This is the create mode hub. If you press on the upper left corner of the screen, you will be able to access the writing challenge of the day. If you press Charles Dicken’s head, you will be able to access Ask Dickens.

Create Mode The Writing Challenge of the Day will have three options to choose from! One option will deal with Victorian culture and context, one will be a poetry-based challenge, and the last option will be a vocabulary challenge!

Ask Dickens Ask Dickens is an AI programmed to give you cultural context, information about serials, answers questions about literature during the Victorian period, and suggestions for what to write if you get stuck.

Newsletter The newsletter is published online and will include literary criticism, original serials and the classics.
