1 Using Google “My Maps”

2 Once your Tech Support member has set up your group’s map, they will share it with you.
Log in to your Google Drive and open the map.

3 Your Tech Support member will have created a “layer” for you
Your Tech Support member will have created a “layer” for you. It will be marked with your name. Find your name on the side bar, located on the left side of the screen. Click on it. When you click on your name, there is a darker blue bar that will move to your layer. Now, when you add to the map, your contributions will be credited to you. (They’ll be listed under your name.)

4 To add a city to your map, click on the “add marker” option on the tool bar at the top of the screen. It looks like a pin. ONLY CLICK ON IT ONCE. (It won’t look like anything’s happened! Don’t be fooled!)

5 To place your pin, click on the location you want to label.
Your pin will now show, and you’ll see a new pop-up screen.

6 Title your pin with the name of the location you’re marking.
In the text box, add LEVEL 1 (your one-paragraph description of the important event that happened in this location), LEVEL 2 (your one-sentence analysis of why this event was so important), and your name.

7 When you hit the blue “Save” button, you should see the title of your pin (your place name) appear under your name on the side bar. Make sure you’ve saved this pin to your own section!!!

8 Made a mistake? There’s a “back” arrow in your toolbar.

9 Look up a picture that would work well with your pin
Look up a picture that would work well with your pin. For example, if my pin is about the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia, I could look up a painting of the convention. Save the picture to your desktop.

10   Go back to your pin. Click on the camera icon.
On the pop-up screen, you’ll see a box that says “Drag an image here.” Drag and drop your saved picture into the box.

11  Once the picture has uploaded, your pin will now look like this…
Click on the blue “Save” button! You’re done with this pin!

12 Repeat this process until all of your individual contributions are pinned onto the group map.
Done? Start reading other group members’ pins as they pop up! This will get you ready for LEVEL 3…
