The Boston Massacre March 5, 1770, mob of taunted British guards at Customs House reinforcements called crowd throw rocks and snowballs British fired w/o command - 5 men killed, including Crispus Attucks, a former slave British captain and 4 soldiers cleared of all charges Lesson British WILL use force when necessary

Committees of Correspondence
formed to share patriotic written work b/w colonies - organized by Samuel Adams of Boston - wrote letters to one another to explain colony’s actions got cities/towns in other colonies to do the same - news from one colony shared with ALL colonies gave approval for the Boston Tea Party

First Continental Congress
Sept, 1774, reps from 12 of 13 colonies met in Philadelphia agreed on three issues: stop all trade w/ England not to obey Brit laws that took away liberty as citizens meet again May 1775 if demands not met INTERCOLONIAL ACTION!

Lexington militias prepared - “minutemen” ready to fight in a minute's time m-men waiting on Lexington Green - outnumbered Am. Capt. ordered men to march off Green, but keep weapons - as they began to leave, British fired - 8 killed / 10 wounded

Concord British found no weapons Patriots had moved them British marched back to Boston - ambushed by m-men - 73 British killed - 174 wounded L & C = Brit casualties 273 > American’s 95 beginning of the Am. Rev. shots "heard around the world" *** first fight for self-government ***
