Motor Control Cranio-Cervical Retraining
Notice the difference between the previous slide
6
Motor Control Scapular Positioning and Scapulohumeral Rhythm
Common Faults Corrections Scapular Anterior Tilt (Inferior Angle Winging) Scapular Internal Rotation (Medial Border Winging) Scapular Downward Rotation Scapular Posterior Tilting Scapular External Rotation Scapular Upward Rotation
7
Motor Control Scapular Positioning and Scapulohumeral Rhythm
8
Motor Control Scapular Positioning
Notice the inferior angle winging
9
Motor Control Scapular Positioning
Shoulder back AND down to prevent winging This facilitates posterior scapular tilting
10
Motor Control Scapular Positioning
Shoulder back AND down to prevent winging Lift hands into the air
11
Motor Control Scapular Positioning
Shoulder back AND down to prevent winging 90 degrees abduction
12
Motor Control Scapular Positioning
Notice how the upper trapezius are trying to take over. Ensure they stay relaxed and the lower trapezius does all the work
13
Motor Control Scapular Positioning
Shoulder back AND down to prevent winging 110 degrees abduction so humerus is in line with fibres of lower trapezius
14
Motor Control Scapular Positioning
Notice how rotation of the lumbar spine is occurring. The lumbar paraspinals could be trying to help stabilise or there may be a restriction in shoulder flexion due to reduced thoracic extension or latissimus dorsi tightness.
15
Motor Control Scapular Positioning- Medial Rotation during glenohumeral elevation
Encourage serratus anterior activity in a closed chain with protraction of the shoulder blade to prevent winging
16
Motor Control Scapular Positioning- Medial Rotation during glenohumeral elevation
Encourage serratus anterior activity and slide arms up wall. Maintain serratus activity to promote upwards and external scapular rotation
17
Upper Trapezius Endurance

Strengthen The Shoulder Girdle The Shoulder W
19
Strengthen The Shoulder Girdle
Shoulder Press Chest Press Lateral Raise Horizontal Row Press Ups Pull Ups Lat Pull Downs
20
Strengthen The Shoulder Girdle
Remember to ensure correct scapula and cervical positioning!!!!!!!!!!
