Do you know that eating healthy foods can
still result in unhealthy individuals?

Learning Outcomes Creating DO: 1. Construct a setup mimicking the movements of the moon, the earth around the sun. 2. Observe how eclipses are formed. Evaluating Analysing UNDERSTAND: 1. When the earth comes between the sun and moon, a Lunar Eclipse happens. 2. When moon comes between the earth and sun, a Solar Eclipse happens. Applying KNOW: Vocabulary: Lunar eclipse, revolution, rotation, solar eclipse Facts: 1. The phenomenon of the Earth revolving around the Sun and that of the Moon revolving round the Earth cause eclipses. Understanding Remembering
6
Prior Knowledge Required By the Students
The solar system, position of Sun, earth and moon in the solar system. Formation of shadows. Phenomenon of revolution of earth around the sun and that of the moon around the earth. Terms like axis, equator, degrees, clockwise, anticlockwise, orbit.

Starter activity Typically given before 2 -10 days
Learning objectives Starter activity Core Activity Extended activity Cross Conceptual linkages Evaluation /Feedback Context setting Increasing the curiosity Previous knowledge application real life exposure Data collection Data Interpretation Analysis Ideation Previous knowledge Analysis and Synthesis Critical thinking Collaboration Communication Concept / Unit Objective Fine motor skills Knowledge - Skills Typically given before days Can be done in groups or individuals Each group/ individual can be given different projects Prescribed evaluation mode is presentation

Starter Activity A few days prior to the activity, let students list out some food items that : 1. They don’t like to eat 2. Are allowed limited 3. They love to eat 4. There is no limit how much they can have 5. Are forbidden during certain season 6. Are special foods given during illnesses
9
Why such restrictions? Once they have a list, let them research by surfing the net, asking elders, reading books etc about the reason why some foods are regulated while others are not. Mostly, in brief, the reason is : health! Have a discussion about what is health, and what types of foods are considered healthy, and which are unhealthy. Now there’s a general agreement about health and healthy foods, the following question stares us: 1. Can we eat any healthy food in any amount? 2. If not, what amounts are appropriate? 3. Further, are there any foods which should be completely avoided?

13
Task 1: Solar eclipse
14
What happens when the Sun, the Moon and the Earth are in a line?
The Moon blocks the sun light falling onto the Earth. The shadow of the Moon falls on the Earth. The areas in that region experience a solar eclipse.
15
Task 2: Lunar eclipse
16
What happens when the Sun, the Earth and the Moon are in a line?
The Earth blocks the Sun light falling onto the Moon. As the Moon is a non – luminous object, and is lying in the shadow of the Earth, we can’t observe the Moon.

19
Extension activity Design the setup to show the eclipse phenomenon of other planets of our solar system. Hint: Vary the number of moons (satellites) accordingly and also the distance between the Sun and the planet. (This can be done in collaboration.) 19
20
Cross concepts: Shadows: Variation in size and shape of a shadow depending on the relative positions of light source and objects. Motion: Rotatory motion, circular motion, periodic motion. Mathematics: Measurement of the area of shadow, Measurement of distances 20
