2 In this lesson we will learn....
Spanish Sounds Numbers 1-10 Greet someone morning, afternoon , evening Say goodbye Say your name Ask someone’s name Say you are pleased to meet someone Ask someone how he or she is Reply when someone asks you how you are. Ask for clarification if you didn’t catch what was said.

3 Spanish sounds 1. B/V sound the same in Spanish. Both are pronounced as the English B. Baile , vista. Vino. 2. H is not pronounced at all. hora , ahora 3. Ll is pronounced y, as in llamar . 4. Ñ is pronounced as in mañana (manyanna) 5. C is pronounced as a soft th, as in theatre, when placed before e or i. centro cine Otherwise it is pronounced like English K, comida. Buenos días Good morning Buenas tardes Good afternoon, evening Buenas noches Good evening, night Practise greeting people at these times: 3 pm am 11 pm pm 7 am pm

10 Goodbye Adiós Goodbye Hasta luego See you later
Buenas noches Good night- goodbye Adiós, is often followed by buenos días, etc. When saying goodbye, to wish someone a nice day.

11 Introducing yourself (Yo) soy.... I am.... (Usted) es.... You are....
The word for both no and not is simply no. Yo no soy Ana.

12 ... and getting to know people
¿Cómo se llama? What´s your name? Usted ¿Cómo te llamas? What´s your name tú Me llamo… My name is….. ¿Perdón? Excuse me? Mucho gusto Pleased to meet you

13 How are you? ¿Cómo está? How are you? Bien, gracias Fine, thanks ¿Y usted? And you? If you know somebody well, you can address them more informally. Tú is the informal word for you. Use ¿Qué tal? Or ¿Cómo estás?

14 How are you? How would you greet the following people at the times indicated? Laura Pérez, the hotel receptionist Carlos Ramos, a business colleague Fernando, a good friend Señora Alameda, an elderly person How would you: Greet you friend Fernando? Ask an elderly neighbour how she is? Say goodbye to Laura Perez at 5 p.m? Say goodbye to Fernando whom you expect to see again later?
