Molecular imaging. Imaging of post-ischemic myocardial inflammation with microbubbles targeted to leukocytes by virtue of their lipid shell constituents (phosphatidylserine). (A) Microbubble attachment to an activated neutrophil in vitro. (B) The contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEU) image obtained 10 min after intravenous injection of leukocyte-targeted microbubbles in a canine model of ischemia and reperfusion of the left-circumflex coronary artery (scale bar at bottom).
