4 VIDEO RECAP Complete the questions on your handout as you watch the video.

5 VIDEO RECAP: CHECK YOUR ANSWERS
REPLICATED INTERPHASE ORGANELLES DNA ENZYMES MITOSIS VISIBLE EQUATOR POLES NUCLEAR COMPLETES

6 INTERPHASE 3 PARTS OF INTERPHASE: LET’S ZOOM IN ON S-PHASE!
G1: REPLICATING ORGANELLES S: REPLICATING CHROMOSOMES G2: CHECKS FOR ERRORS/PREPARES FOR MITOSIS LET’S ZOOM IN ON S-PHASE!

7 SYNTHESIS PHASE: DNA COMPONENTS RECAP
DNA is composed of _________. The _________________ and the ____________are always the same. The component that differs is the nitrogenous bases (or nitrogen base). BASE PARIRING RULES Adenine always pairs with __________. Cytosine always pairs with __________. nucleotides Deoxyribose sugar phosphate Thymine Guanine

8 SYNTHESIS PHASE: DNA REPLICATION RECAP
Replication: Synthesizing (making) DNA Remember! The nitrogen bases are separated by weak, _________________ bonds being broken apart. The sugar and phosphate molecules are held together by strong, _________________ bonds. hyrdogen covalent

9 Let’s Practice. Try to sing the song with your eyes closed
Let’s Practice! Try to sing the song with your eyes closed. Only look if you have to! We love DNA made of nucleotides. Phosphate, sugar, and a base bonded down one side. Thymine and adenine make a lovely pair, cytosine without guanine would feel very bare.

10 Try your best to circle the correct answer to the 4 statements below on your paper.
Mitosis occurs in: Somatic cells Gametes Mitosis creates daughter cells that are genetically: Different Identical How many divisions occur during the process of mitosis? One Two How many daughter cells are created as a result of mitosis? Two Four

11 LET’S CHECK OUR ANSWERS

12 REVIEW MITOSIS HANDS

13 PHASES OF MITOSIS RECAP

14 CELL CYLCE AND MITOSIS IN SUMMARY:

15 Let’s Practice! The phase the cell is in.
For each picture, write the following things on your whiteboard. Use your spinner to help you! The phase the cell is in. The defining characteristic of that phase.

16 The phase the cell is in. The defining characteristic of that phase. Metaphase Lined up in the middle

17 The phase the cell is in. The defining characteristic of that phase. Interphase No defined chromosomes

18 The defining characteristic of that phase.
The phase the cell is in. The defining characteristic of that phase. Telophase Daughter cells are pulling apart from each other, but not completely separated.

19 The phase the cell is in. The defining characteristic of that phase. Prophase Chromosomes are formed (looks like worms)

20 The phase the cell is in. The defining characteristic of that phase. Anaphase Chromosomes are pulling away. (Opposite sides of the cell)

21 CANCER Cancer cells develop as a result of a genetic mutation. During the S-phase DNA was not replicated correctly. When the cell continues to divide (with the incorrectly replicated DNA) during mitosis, it interrupts the cell cycle. Cancer is caused by uncontrollable cell division of a type of cell in your body.
