3.3 billion people live in urban areas, 50% world population 70% of world population will live in urban areas 1 billion live in Slums!! 61% of world population will live in urban areas 2 billions live in Slums!! 2.9 billion people live in urban areas, 47% world population

Urban Growth Rate: Less developed regions: 2.9% More developed regions: 0.6% (1995 – 2000) Urban growth rate will continue to be particularly rapid in urban areas of less developed regions, averaging 2.3 per cent per year during

4 Urban Risks in Egypt: Annual Population Growth Rate of 2.2 – 3%
Nearly 40% of the population lives in urban areas, with much of the population living in crowded conditions. Socio-economic constraints aggravated by recent events in Egypt and neighboring countries. Approximately 16 million people live in slums (1105 slum areas) Overpopulation Poor Housing Lack of Awareness Illiteracy Shortage of basic minimum needs Poor infrastructure and public services

5 Urban Risks and Migration:
In-country Rural to Urban Migration. represented one of the major fueling factors for urban expansion specially in 90s. Potential irregular migrants. Egyptians and non-Egyptians fleeing from their places to another in and outside country Migrant communities exposed to urban risks (invisible migrants)
