Sugar Act The Sugar Act of 1764 – placed a
3 cent –penny tax on each gallon of molasses that entered the colonies from outside the British Empire. This also included tax on imports of sugar, textiles, coffee, wine, and indigo dye.

Stamp Act 2. The Stamp Act of 1765 – required colonist to pay for tax stamps on newspapers, and various legal documents like permits, commercial contacts, pamphlets, and playing cards. After paying a tax, these documents would receive a stamp. However, the stamps were very expensive and could only be paid in silver or gold.

Stamp Act Many colonists ignored the Stamp Act.
They even threatened tax collectors. Many tax collectors were too afraid to enforce the law. To protest the act, colonists boycotted British goods, which hurt British manufacturers Boycott means to refuse to buy a product in rebellion After arguring, Parlaiment ended the Stamp Act. Yay!

Quartering Act of 1765 The Quartering Act of 1765 made it mandatory to house British soldiers. This meant feeding as well! But after the French and Indian war, the colonists didn’t understand why they still needed to house and feed soldiers anymore! They felt this was unfair, unneeded and violation of their rights. It finally expired in 1767

Townshend Acts 3. The Townshend Acts of placed a tax on imported goods including glass, lead, paint, oil and paper. Americans responded by refusing to buy British goods. By summer 1768, protests against the Townshend Act grew violent, especially in Boston. Colonists’ again boycotted British goods. British merchants helped ensure the act was repealed. Pretend you are a colonist in America at this point in history. Write a ¾ page letter to King George telling him: 1) Why you are mad/upset (i.e. taxes, no representation, not being able to move west, not having a say in laws, etc) 2) Why you don’t think it is fair 3) What he needs to do to fix it/change it 4) If he doesn’t fix it, what will you do in return.
