Standard 1 Objective 1 Compile a list of careers related to the developmental areas of the early childhood education industry. List should include entry and professional levels of employment and volunteer opportunities for early childhood education professionals for all ages and developmental levels of children.

Is Center Based Child Care Best for You?

Child Care: broad term that describes any situation in which children are provided with supervision, support and sometimes training by individuals outside the child’s immediate family. Trend: the overall direction in which a society moves within a given time frame.

Nanny vs. Au Pair Nanny Au Pair
An in-home care provider who may or may not live with the family. A person from another country who lives with the family and cares for its children to receive exposure to American culture as a part of his or her employment.

Entrepreneur Child Development Associate (CDA) A person who owns and operates a business A nationally recognized credential program for early childhood professionals.

Factors that Contribute to the Need for EC Educators
1.The United States is a society with many families moving to find employment. 2. Grandparents and other family often live far away or are still in the workforce. 3. Single parents rely on quality child care to work outside the home. 4. In many dual-career families, both parents work outside the home.

Characteristics for Working with Children
Enjoy working with children Have good physical health. Are kind and compassionate. Have a positive “can-do” attitude. Show a sense of humor. Are dedicated to serving children and families. Respect diverse family backgrounds. Understand how children grow and develop. Can see the world from both a child’s and parent’s point of view. Communicate effectively. Show consistency in ways of responding to children. Adapt easily to changes in schedule and plans, as needed. Show creativity and resourcefulness in solving problems. Make decisions as a team player. Are reliable and dependable. Display self-starting INITIATIVE.
