Ice Breaker Introduction First Steps

Length of Course First Steps will take 8 weeks to complete each week we will look at a different aspect of Literacy and Numeracy delivery and understanding. There are 4 Assignments Reflective Diaries: the purpose of this reflective diary is to record your learning experiences and give you an opportunity to think about what you have learned and how you put this into practice. Observation: to view how you work with a learner and the Resources (Learning Articles) you use with the Learner during a session. This takes place after you have been on a placement working with learner(s). Reflective Diaries – speak about how this is to be completed from 1st Training session right up to the Placement. Observation - this will be the your last Assessment of the course. First Steps

Essay: of a maximum of 600 (+/-20) words which will look at Literacy and Numeracy with an outlook on delivery from a local focal point. Resource Review: looking for Resources to use with a Learner and/or Group. Essay – the 1st Assignment of this course. Resource Review – This will be submitted twice once while on the Training course and then when you are using a Resource with a Learner during the Observation, submitted before the Observation. Course Covers This course will cover the following:
Adult Literacies in Glasgow and Scotland Adult Learning - How is this done? Reading – reading strategies! Writing – writing strategies! Spelling – spelling strategies! Numeracy – understanding numbers. Resources – to use with Learner. Planning –3R’s how to reach learners goals. Learning Difficulties overview throughout the course First Steps

Course Content The Programme Title is First Steps in Adult Literacies Tutoring. This is a level 6 and worth 3 Credits on SCQF. You will also require a Volunteer placement with one of the ALN Tutors of Jobs & Business Glasgow. You will continue to receive support throughout the training and also while on placement. First Steps

Submitting Documents All Assessments submitted to this course must be done using a PC with a text editor MSWord, Google Docs, Open Office, etc… “No Exceptions!” If you require ICT Training we can help. If you require more time in submitting an Assignment just ask If you do not have access to a PC please let us know now! If you cannot print, you can to either one of the tutors Kate or Raymond. As with the last Group some did require ICT Training, for this they can acquire and ila Token and undertake MOS. Ask question if know how to use a PC and a Text Editor. First Steps

Extra Items We will offer Dyslexia training to all Volunteers after the 1st Steps delivery is complete, no assignment attached to this training. If required will train you, to use Kindle’s Book readers and any other equipment. s will be sent out with other items of interest such as: - Reminders, Meetings, free External Training/Events & Job Posts. We can help you with any Literacy/Numeracy & PC issues if you require it. This is to show what else to expect from while you are with us. First Steps
