#1 accidental death for children under 1 Adults-nicknamed “Café Coronary” Mix alcohol with food and talking Food gets lodged in windpipe

CHOKING Signs Victim grabs the throat Face turns (blue)
Victim cannot speak Coughing is noise so do not attempt to rescue

CHOKING Treatment Use Heimlich Maneuver (abdominal thrust)
Infants (age 1 & under) – use back blows & chest thrusts Self-treated – use hands or chair Get medical attention

CONVULSIONS SIGNS Uncontrollable muscle contractions
Loss of bladder & bowel control Medical alert tag Blow to the head

CONVULSIONS Treatment Protect the head Don’t restrain
Don’t put anything in the mouth Let the victim rest Get medical attention
