What is Action Learning? – NOT this:

But more like this: A group of 5 to 8 people who meet for a minimum of 6 half day sessions and by a process of listening, reflecting and asking questions they solve significant problems for themselves and the organisations they work for.

Key Principles: Everyone is equal (no egos)
Confidentiality is understood Respect and understanding is paramount Meetings are kept strictly to time Problems are owned by individuals There is no ‘fixing’ or ‘rescuing’ or ‘advising’ Problems are solved by: LISTENING REFLECTING QUESTIONING Action is taken There has to be a trained Action Learning Facilitator

Activity Find a partner Say hello – shake hands
Agree to be person A and person B Person A Speak for one minute, about the enjoyable part of their job Speak for one minute about a current frustration Person B - Listen - Paraphrase what you heard Switch!

Write down your top 2 problems: Problem 1 Problem 2 With your partner identify if these problems lie in your zone of influence or your zone of no influence

How does Action Learning foster collaboration and leadership?
When people trust, respect and understand one another collaboration naturally occurs Action Learning is all about accountability – when 7 people bear witness to your stated action, it is 90% more likely that you will complete your action
