2. What is a satellite?
A small object that orbits another, much larger object (ex. The Moon)
Man-made devices that retrieve information from and Earth and other planets in order to study them
Some man-made satellites take pictures and others gather number data, which can then be interpreted

3. Why are satellites important?
They can return various forms of information (radiation, images, greenhouse gases, etc.)
With respect to Earth, they can cover a large area for investigation
The have a much clearer view than telescopes on land
They have helped increase communication (cell phones, TV’s, Internet)

5. Where are satellites?
Satellites are sent on rockets and orbit the Earth
There are different kinds of satellites in different orbits (heights above the Earth)
They float around in space between the Earth and the Moon
Satellites send information to computers on Earth
