1 Brown vs. Board of Education 1954 By: Lizbeth and Carol

2 Declaring that the discrimination nature of racial segregation
Constitutional Issue Declaring that the discrimination nature of racial segregation “violates 14th Amendment”

3 Litigant 1 Description People from different ethnic groups were against the discrimination, stereotypes, and prejudgment against them. Parents were against the school system and wanted their kids to go to the same schools that the white kids did. They wanted to be treated equally.

4 Litigant 2 Description The Board of Education wanted the different types of ethnic groups and other people from a certain religion or characteristic to be separated from others. Children were to go to different schools because the color of their skin or any other different characteristic they had.

5 Background of Case This case wasn’t only about the children being separated from other kids, but is also about the human tendencies to prejudge, discrimination, and stereotypes about people from different ethnic groups, religious, and cultural characteristics The Board of Education wanted African American kids to go to different schools, separated from the white kids. They believe in separate but equal.

6 Majority opinion: key points
Supreme Court ruled that segregation was illegal according to the Constitution. “Does segregation of children in public schools solely the basis of race, even though the physical facilities and other “tangible” factors may be equal deprive the children of the minority group of equal educational opportunity?” We believe that it does.

7 Other Courts Opinion The Court agreed on the case and let kids go to any school. Ruled against segregation and racism against people. People were treated equal and not judged by the color of their skin .

8 Significance LOOK AROUND THE ROOM!!!
All races are treated the same and they are all allowed to be in the same classroom and school. This case was important because it allowed everyone to be treated equal no matter how they look or the color of there skin.

9 Our Response Our response about this case is that we agree with the supreme court for ruling against segregation among the people. We believe that its fair for everyone to treated equal and have the same rights as others.
