EmergencyInfo is a powerful decision support system, based on DevInfo database technology that helps people to respond better in emergency situations. It combines the advanced data access and presentation features of DevInfo with new data capture technologies. EmergencyInfo helps to bridge information gaps within the first few hours of an emergency and provide support for rapid data collection, situation assessment, standard monitoring reports and disaster preparedness. EmergencyInfo database utilities help analyse the data from multiple dimensions and identify key information to formulate more effective response strategies. With a few clicks, the information can be presented as a tables, graphs and maps for dissemination in standardized situation reports. Lets see how EmergencyInfo helps bridge the information gap in the event of an emergency. Data can be collected from multiple affected areas using rapid assessment forms to assess the situation. The forms can capture data on various sectors such as health, nutrition, education and environment. These forms are available as EmergencyInfo templates in XML format which can be used to capture data using hand-held computers or PDAs. The raw data can then be imported into EmergencyInfo to analyze the situation and create reports using the EmergencyInfo wizards to generate tables, graphs and maps. The format of a standard situation report (or SITREP) can be saved and easily re-used by a wide group of emergency personnel to provide consistent and regular updates on changes in the emergency situation.

DevInfo can be used to produce graphs to compare UN expenditures by MDGs between countries.
41
DevInfo can be used to produce graphs to compare UN expenditures by MDGs within a country. As reported by UNDP, the comparative data obtained from the initial test of three pilot countries would need to be analysed on the basis of an individual country’s local definition for each MDG and its performance towards achieving each MDG target. Thus, the mechanism for linking UNDP’s expenses related to each MDG to the country’s situation should be elaborated, taking into consideration the fact that MDG Goals and Targets defined at the country level can significantly differ from the MDG Goals and Targets defined at the global level.
42
devinfo.org In summary, DevInfo provides a cross sectoral repository for strategic information on human development. The system can be easily adapted to country specifications. The database contains both global and user-defined indicators. These indicators can be linked to global and user-defined goals. DevInfo promotes the dissemination of data for effective advocacy and timely decision support. You are invited to visit for more information about DevInfo. 42

Example of DevInfo database in Low Income countries
KyrgyzInfo EFA-Info (EFA – Education for All), jointly designed and developed by NSC, MoE and Health Progress Center, contains information on education according to UNESCO standards and definitions. Health-Info, designed to provide evidence to the Health Care Reform (Manas-Taalemi Programme) contains a wide range of health indicators. Data are presented at the 2-d sub-national level.

49
Example of DevInfo database in Middle Income Countries
DevInfo Srbija Database is updated regularly, twice a year It has 328 indicators at the national level, out of which 92 indicators are with data for municipality level (3rd sub-national level) and data on minority populations (Roma). National DevInfo database is used for planning and monitoring the implementation of MDGs, NPA (National Plan of Action for Children) and the Poverty Reduction Strategy. Databases are also used for monitoring the realization of LPAs (Local Plans of Action for children) in 21 municipalities in Serbia.

OK …but what’s the impact of the use of Devinfo-based databases?
53
Data presented through DevInfo are being used for Evidence Based Decision Making …
DevInfo-based data are used at Government policy makers and major stakeholders, including to the Parliament in Kazakhstan and Serbia DevInfo-based data are presented in strategic national Conferences, such as at the EU Conference on Social Inclusion in Macedonia and the National Conference on Poverty in Tajikistan In Serbia, DevInfo-based data informed the public hearing at the National Parliament on “Child health. Challenges and solutions”
54
Preliminary results achieved through the use of DevInfo-based data for evidence-based policy advocacy In Serbia, DevInfo-based data were instrumental to initiate: the establishment of the National Commission on Young Children Nutrition and feeding practices; the initiative to ban corporal punishment, coordinated by the Serbian NGO network in partnership with the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy
55
DevInfo-based M&E systems instrumental to increase attention and public investments in children:
In Serbia, DevInfo-based M&E system to monitor LPA, was instrumental to: Increase investment for children seven-fold in two years Reduced by 50% number of Roma children in spec.inst. In Moldova, DevInfo-based PRS M&E system was instrumental to: Increase investment in social sectors by 21% in 2006
