Welcome to Elm Class.

2. Welcome
This meeting will be a brief overview of the year 2 SATS that will take place in End of May/ beginning of June 2018 (TBC). If you have any questions please feel free to ask.

3. Papers English grammar, punctuation and spelling test. (SPAG)
English reading test.
Mathematics test.

4. English grammar, punctuation and spelling test.
This test will consist of 2 papers. Paper 1: 20 word spelling test (15 mins) Paper 2: SPAG (20 mins- break in middle) Question types: right answer, multiple choice and short answers.

6. Grammar and punctuation
Nouns, adjectives, verbs and adverbs
Past and present tense
Punctuation: apostrophe, questions mark
Complete the sentence, missing words
Contractions: it’s, I’ll, didn’t, you’ve
Statements, questions, commands and exclamations
Adding s and es to words
Sentence structure, being able to identify and correct sentences

10. English Reading
The reading test will consist of 2 papers. Paper 1 will combine reading prompts alongside the questions. The questions will relate to the reading prompt at the top of each page. ( words) Paper 2 will consist of a reading booklet containing 2 different texts and a separate answer booklet containing questions based on the texts. ( words) 40 mins- not strictly timed. Doesn’t assess speed. Teachers may stop children at any point necessary to give a break if needed.

11. Reading
Question types: multiple choice, rank/ ordering, matching, labelling, find and copy, short answers and open ended.
Literal retrieval- can chn find information in a text?
Inference- can chn think for themselves and provide reasons- thoughts, feelings/ reasons?
knowledge of vocabulary to understand texts- can they say what words mean?
Can chn identify / explain key aspects of fiction and non-fiction texts, such as characters, events, titles and information identify?
Can chn explain the sequence of events in texts?
Can chn predict what might happen on the basis of what has been read so far?

15. Mathematics
The maths tests consists of an arithmetic paper and a reasoning paper. The arithmetic paper contains calculations such as addition and subtraction. The children will have to choose a method to work out the answer, whether that be mentally or with jottings such as a number line. The reasoning paper consists of the teacher reading questions and the children answering them in their answer booklet.

16. Paper 1: arithmetic Addition: 36+24= Subtraction: 39-11=
Multiplication 3x3=
Division: 35 divided by 5=
Multiple step calculations: =
Missing numbers: 50 - ____ = 20
Fractions: ¼ of 20=

21. Writing There will be no writing paper.
Children's writing will be teacher assessed.
Independent writing- weekly. Usually based on theme or literacy units.
Plan and write their own texts.
Used to make judgements on what the children can do independently.

29. Scores
No levels
Children will be assessed against the national expectation for their year group.
The children's marks will be converted into a scaled score. (A pass mark released after the tests have been conducted- average nationally represents a scaled score of 100).
The national benchmark is 100, this is where they are expected to be- working at.
Children who achieve above 100 will be working higher than the expectation for their year group.
A scaled score of 110= greater depth
All schools will have the same national benchmark.
