3. Towards Inclusion Learning Intentions for lesson 5:
To examine how pupils’ relationships were changed by the ways
they addressed the bullying of pupils with a learning disability.
To consider what opportunities there are for young people, with
and without learning disabilities, to come together in the
Community.
To design a poster about an aspect of what we have learned over the
past few weeks and present it to others in our school.

5. Activity 2 Work in Groups of 3/4
You can see that pupils from both schools have ‘moved
on’ since the bullying incident. The questions below
will help us to examine this ‘transformation’:
What did the schools do to resolve the bullying situation?
How were the pupils involved in this process?
What was achieved by their actions?

Thinking about our school – what opportunities are there for young people with and without learning disabilities to meet up?

7. Don’t be Awkward – Just be Yourself!
"I feel awkward talking to someone with a learning disability, so I end up avoiding them."
“They’re still a person – and they could be a great person you want to get to know.”

8. What have we learned over the last few weeks?
We are all the same and each of us is different.
A learning disability is only a difference.
People with a learning disability may need extra help to do things but are entitled to (or can live) as good a life as anyone else.

9. What have we learned over the last few weeks?
People with a learning disability have a right to be safe wherever they are – it can be a crime to bully someone because of their disability.
Doing things together is a good way to break down barriers and get to know and understand life from another person’s perspective.

10. Activity 4 Poster Brief 
Choose one of the following themes for a poster:
Celebrating Diversity – being different or unique should be celebrated! We are all the same and each of us is unique.
Support for People with a Learning Disability - consider what a ‘full life’ looks like for a person with a learning disability.
The Right to Be Safe and Feel Safe - it can be a crime to bully someone because of their disability
Being Inclusive - think about how people with and without learning disabilities can come together, making us all part of a team or community and supporting one another. Consider the types of activities we can do together in relation to work and play!
