1 FSA General Information
The Florida Standards Assessments is a suite of reading, writing and math tests designed to measure student performance. The test is tied to the Florida standards, which outline what students should know at the end of each grade. Standards can be viewed at: FLDOE.org

2 How can I help my child be successful?
Stay involved in your child’s education. Offer positive support and feedback. Encourage your child to relax and do their very best. Take advantage of online resources, such as school websites and portals. Ensure your child is present and on time throughout the testing window for their grade.

120 minutes to read multiple passages and write a response to a prompt Writing Scores will be counted as a portion of the overall ELA test.

12 Two Types of Writing Argumentative
Analyze multiple texts and defend a point of view with textual evidence. Informative or Explanatory Read multiple texts and use textual information to support an idea.

13 Sample Argumentative Prompt
Write an essay in which you take a position on whether or not students should be required to stay in school until they are 18. Use the information presented in the passages to support your argument. Make sure to include information from all the passages in your essay. Manage your time carefully so that you can read the passages; plan your essay; write your essay; and revise and edit your essay. Be sure to: • Introduce a claim; • Distinguish counterclaims; (grade level specific) • Use evidence from multiple sources; and • Avoid overly relying on one source.  Your written response should be in the form of a multi-paragraph essay. Remember to spend time reading, planning, writing, revising, and editing.

14 Sample Explanatory/Informative Prompt
Write an essay in which you explain why scientific knowledge changes over time and what impact these changes have on society. Use the information presented in all three texts to support your points. Manage your time carefully so that you can read the passages; plan your essay; write your essay; and revise and edit your essay. 45 Attention Parents of 3rd Graders: Promotion Requirements
In order to move on to fourth grade, students must satisfy at least one of the following state requirements: Level 2 or higher on ELA portion of FSA Passing portfolio (see next slide) 45th percentile or higher score on SAT 10 (Given in May) 50th percentile or higher on final i-ready assessment. Additional exemptions may pertain to ELL, ESE, or previously retained students.

46 Attention Parents of 3rd Graders: Third Grade Portfolios
Can be used for Good Cause Exemption documentation for students who score Level 1 on ELA portion of FSA. Provides evidence of mastery of third grade standards. Each of the 18 tests consist of a short reading passage followed by 5 questions covering several standards. Require at least 70% score on 3 informational and 3 literary passages. Tests began in approximately one per week.
