7 (CTE) Career Technical Education Courses
(CTE) Career Technical Education Courses are Available to all Clovis Unified 11th and 12th Grade Students. Clovis West Course Offerings Include: Education Careers (With English-P) Theater Production (P) (With English-P) Small Business Management Business and Finance (EECU) Automotive (Systems Diagnostics, Service and Repair)

8 CART CART is for any junior or senior enrolled
in a CUSD or FUSD high school Students with regular attendance Prerequisites are C or better in: Math 1 Biology 2 years of English Some programs require additional prerequisites CART offers two sessions AM Session 7:30AM to 10:30AM PM Session 12:30PM to 3:30PM Bus transportation is provided from every high school

9 CART CART provides students an opportunity to earn 20 credits
(4 Classes) per semester CART classes are college preparatory and most are UC approved (a-g requirements) CART students earn English and Technology credit in all labs Some CART labs may earn Science or Social Science credits (speak with your counselor for more details) Some CART labs also offer students opportunities to earn college credits (through agreements with CSU Fresno and SCCCD)

10 How do I apply to CART? CART accepts students through a lottery process Applications for the following year are available starting on December 1st , 2017 Students apply online, selecting their top three choices and then counselors send transcripts/approval to CART To be considered in the lottery, applications and transcripts must reach CART by February 9th, 2018. Clovis West field trip to CART is on November 30th, 2017.

December 1, CART Applications available online. January 18, CART Showcase (All Day, Evening Showcase starts at 5pm) February 6, 2018– CART teachers visit sophomores and Juniors January 24, Parent Information Night (6:30-7:30 pm) February 1, Parent Information Night (6:30-7:30 pm) February 9, CART Applications Due In Order to be considered for lottery. This deadline is firm

12 PSAT The PSAT is a Practice Test for the SAT
On average students who take the PSAT perform better on the SAT Tests are Given Only Once in October Cost for the PSAT is $19 (2016) May be Eligible for National Merit Scholarship Competition (Junior year only)

ACT SAT Science, Math, Reading, English Accepted Nationally Curriculum-Based No Penalty for Guessing All Multiple Choice Basic Fee: $46.00 Writing Essay: Optional $62.50 Writing Essay: 30 min Perfect Score: 36 Choose best score to report Career Interest Inventory Critical Reading, Math, Writing Accepted Nationally Reasoning No penalty for guessing Math Grid-ins Basic Fee: $60.00 w/ Writing Writing Essay: Optional Writing Essay: 50 min Perfect Score: 1600 All scores reported Pre SAT: PSAT (11th grade)

Testing Requirements Must Take the SAT or ACT with Writing SAT Subject Test no longer required Course Requirements (A-G) History/Social Science - 2 Years Required English - 4 Years Required Mathematics - 3 Years Required, 4 Recommended   Lab Science - 2 Years Required, 3 Recommended Foreign Language - 2 Years Required, 3 Recommended Visual/Performing Arts - 1 Year Required College-Prep Elective - 1 Year Required  * 11 A-G courses completed before senior yr.
