4 Data Study: How Fast Do Pumps Update?

5 Data Study: Findings from Pump Status Reports
We followed pump status patterns of 3 update cycles (total of 80 days) for one hospital (686 pumps) 251 (36.58%) pumps were current at the end of all three update cycles. All of these were on average current for only 54 days (67.6%) out of 80. Only 13 pumps (1.8%) were current more than 80% of the time (64 days). 159 (23.17%) pumps were NEVER current during entire three update cycles. Systems/process failure– information and physical workflows need to be re-designed, coordinated and integrated

7 Study Questions Objective
Implementing a visual cue to increase frontline users’ awareness of pump library updates Improve the speed of pump updates to ensure patient safety

8 Study Design Phase I: Baseline Metrics
Method: survey Population: Frontline users of infusion pumps and patient safety experts Phase II: Focus Group for Visual Cue Design Method: User-centered design approach Population: 10 – 15 frontline pumps users Phase III: Implementation and Assessment of Intervention Method: Intervention and control groups in one facility; end-of-survey; statistical analysis of pump data Population: Frontline users of the study group
