Help Chinese-speaking students better understand the academic policies of MIIS
Translate an 800-word English student brochure to Chinese and complete this task in 120 minutes
Produce a glossary of terms
Translation tool: Google Translator Toolkit

3. What we did Came up with a clear project proposal
Performed risk management
Finished the job within the planned time
Delivered high quality translation and glossary

4. What went well Everybody on the team was actively involved
Planning went smoothly
Translation was done quickly and with high quality
The project was finished on time
We had a great time together!

5. What challenges we faced
1. Power failure: fully charge our laptops prior to group work
2. Timeout: supervise each other and take screen recording while translating
3. Inconsistency in details and format maintaining: proofread each other’s work and hold two discussions to ensure the consistency of terminology and format

6. What didn’t go well Working time & location:
It was hard for freelance translators to schedule a meeting
Working in a public venue like Samson Center was distracting

7. Conclusion
Especially when dealing with technical texts, it’s essential for translators to communicate, pay attention to adjusting forms and maintain the consistency in texts.
