Scenario – Section 2 of the exam
Learning intentions : To develop our ability to tackle a scenario question requiring analysis and develop strategies which will support deeper thinking. Success Criteria Pupils will understand the command word analyse and use the scaffolding aid effectively to encourage reflection and more depth in responses. Success Criteria Pupils will apply their knowledge of sub factors to the scenario question and make informed judgements which are supported. Success Criteria Pupils will use linking phrases and draw upon their games /activity knowledge to delve deeper.

Unknown Scenario worth 16 marks in the exam (2 x 8 marks)
Timeline : 30 mins What might this look like? A picture A table of data A list of statements The below quotes are taken from a Sports Report in a local Newspaper Article: “THE PLAYER’S LOOKED OFF THE PACE AND UNFIT” “THE TEAM LACKED LEADERSHIP” “TOWARDS THE END OF THE GAME THE PLAYERS GAVE UP AND VERBAL ARGUMENTS BROKE OUT ” “TWO PLAYERS WERE SENT OFF FOR MISCONDUCT” “A NUMBER OF SIMPLE MISTAKES WERE MADE WHEN PERFORMING BASIC SKILLS”

Today’s Task Ground Rules
You will be shown a scenario statement linked to a specific sport. We will aim to deconstruct the first question of this paper and through reflection in pairs document/share our thoughts on why this has occurred during performance. Linking phrases will then be used to create one point of analysis from ideas raised. Ground Rules * Both individuals in your pairing must contribute. (Initial contributions) You do not need to have extensive knowledge of tennis or Andy Murray but you must use your knowledge of sub factors (5 homeworks, notes, powerpoints) and where possible relate this scenario to a sport you are more familiar with. Remember that similar scenarios unfold in a range of activities. Remember there could be multiple perspectives in this scenario and that it is very open ended. You just substantiate your claims or views. Decide which issue you will deal with first and follow that order. Otherwise, EITHER write on the issue that you know is a core concept (and which you have therefore learned well first OR write on the issue about which you know most first.

“That the tennis that preceded the most nerve-shredding of final moments varied hugely in quality did not matter. Murray, stretching emotions to the limit, needed four match points to break the resistance of the toughest fighter in tennis and said afterwards: "I have no idea what happened. I don't know how long it was. Sorry." – Guardian, 7th July 2013 In the final of Wimbledon 2013, Andy Murray was leading 40 – 0 in what could be the final game of the Championship needing just one point to win. Djokovic won the next three points to bring the game back. Murray then closed out the win to be crowned Wimbledon Champion. QUESTION 1 Analyse the possible reasons why Andy Murray lost those three points. You must refer to the following factors impacting on performance: Mental and one other from Emotional, social or physical. 8 Marks

Example answers Mental sub Factor: Level of Arousal
It is very likely that Murray was over Aroused when he was so close to securing his first grand slam on home soil. Anxiety/anticipation may have built as a result of the crowds expectation, and the realisation of how close he was to achieving his ambition. He would have been aware of the Toughness and major threat from the world number one who has come back from impossible positions to beat Murray. This may have resulted in Murray forgetting his game plan and not making the best decisions on shot select to close out the point and this allows Djokovic back into the match. (1 Mark) Also Murray might have tightened up through increased pressured . This meant he overcooked and rushing his shots which then lost width and accuracy.
