1 Floral Design Color Schemes
Ms. Vick

2 Color Wheel

3 Monochromatic Same color but different shades
Flowers of exactly the same color and shade are not monochromatic

4 Polychromatic Uses a wide range of colors Warm and cool colors
“Rainbow colors” Multiple colors that do not fit into another color scheme

5 Primary Red, blue, yellow
Colors cannot be combined to make primary colors HOWEVER they can be combined to make other colors Often times a purplish color of a specific shade is used as blue

6 Secondary Green, orange, purple Created by combining primary colors
May use different shades of these colors (peach for orange, lavender for purple, etc.)

7 Analogous Colors that are next to each other on the color wheel
Remember: it is a wheel and not the arch that we associate with rainbows. This puts red and purple next to each other…

8 Complementary Colors across from each other on the color wheel Main:
Purple/Yellow Green/Red Orange/Blue

9 Warm Red, yellow, orange (and most shades of these colors)
Gives a “warm” feeling These are colors that feel like they are advancing (coming toward you) (Think of colors that are used next to each other in 3-D animation)

10 Cool Blue, violet (purple), and green Gives a “cool” feeling
These are colors that are receding (moving away from you)
