2 What are they?? Diseases that are not spread through contact
Caused by a breakdown in body cells and tissues May begin due to person’s lifestyle habits, environment, or heredity

Lung cancer: #1 cause of cancer deaths Lymphoma: weakens the immune system Colon and rectal cancer: diet related Breast cancer: most common in women over 50 Cancer of reproductive organs: both men and women (ovarian, testicular, cervical) Leukemia: affects tissues that produce blood cells

Radiation: x-rays are aimed at tumors to destroy cancer cells Chemotherapy: chemicals are used to destroy cells (can cause nausea, hair loss, or other side effects)

13 How to prevent Heart disease?
Four factors out of your control - age, gender, race, and family history Five factors within your control - weight, exercise, diet, stress, tobacco

Heart transplant: replacing damaged heart with a healthy donor heart Re-route: use an artery from the patient’s leg to form a detour Angioplasty: using a tiny balloon to crush the fatty deposit
