1 The Intolerable Acts Take notes on pg. 22 of your ISN
The important information is highlighted.

2 Tyranny: cruel and oppressive government or rule

3 The Intolerable Acts The Interoperable Acts were Britain's reaction to the Boston Tea Party. There were 4 acts the made up the Intolerable Acts. The Port of Boston was closed The Massachusetts Government Act British troops would be tried in Britain The Quartering Act

4 Closure of the Boston Port
Britain forced Boston Port closed until the tea was paid for. Without the ability to trade and ship goods, Britain’s economy suffered. This act of force made the colonist consider Britain even more tyrannical.

5 Massachusetts Government Act
The Bostonian government was shut down. Britain had control over all government (more tyranny) Citizens were not allowed to meet, not even town meetings, without the governor’s permission.

6 Trials in Britain Soldiers, who were accused of crimes, would be tried in Britain. This was a big deal because: 1) The trials in Britain wouldn’t be fair. They were being tried across the ocean with a biased judge, under the King’s command. 2) The soldiers in the Boston Massacre received a fair trial in Boston. They were acquitted! This act made the Bostonians feel like they couldn’t manage themselves (more tyranny)

7 Quartering Act British troops were sent to Boston, placing the city under military control. The Quartering Act forced colonists to house soldiers in their homes and provide resources for the troops. It was an invasion of privacy and a tax. More tyranny!

8 The Intolerable Acts Effects
This tyrannical show of force didn’t crush the patriots. What it did was united the patriots . It also convinced colonists who were on the fence between Loyalist and Patriot to fight for independence. The colonies began to unite, and plans were made for colonial leaders to meet to counteract King George’s tyranny. The First Continental Congress would soon convene.
