UCS 5.7 Features – Open SIP – (Con’t)
Description Benefits OpenSIP Support for OpenLDAP directory protocol Client side sorting can be either enabled or disabled through configuration to improve interoperability. Users LDAP credentials can also be stored on the phone in an encrypted format. Allows directories that make use of the OpenLDAP protocol to be used. Also allows customer to avoid having to regularly enter their username and password. AS-SIP/MLPP Support When configured, VVX phones will now utilize Multi-Level Precedence and Pre-emption as part of the Assured Services – SIP to allow calls to be tagged with a pre-emption level Saves time by ensuring important calls can always get through in environments where this is important Emergency IM Display Use SIP to send an Instant Message to a phone. If the message has “Emergency” set in the priority header, the VVX will automatically display the message on the phone UI Allows a switch to send an emergency message to all phones to inform users of an emergency (such as an active shooter) without any audible indication
5
UCS 5.7 Features – (Con’t) Feature Description Benefits
Assign EFK to Line Keys Allow Enhanced Feature Keys to be assigned to a line key rather than one of the regular soft keys. Allows more EFKs to be shown on the phone display and reduces the need to have the “More” SK shown. User Control of Acoustic Fence Allow acoustic fence to be controlled by the user, and set the default value for acoustic fence to be “On” Provide the ability for end users to control the feature so that it can be disabled when not required New UI for Off hook dialing UX improvements on VVX 3xx and 4xx to allow users to remain on the lines view when going off hook and to show active call information in the top ribbon rather than covering the entire display. Improves the usability of VVX 3xx/4xx phones during calls by ensuring that all line key information is visible and not covered by the active call information. Also allows a user to immediately select a speed dial/BLF as a destination when going off hook
6
UCS 5.7 Features – (Con’t) Feature Description Benefits

Bluetooth Smartphone Pairing
Functionality You can now pair a smartphone with a VVX 600 or VVX 601 using the built in Bluetooth radio of the phone - You can answer, reject, or end a call Benefits Easy pairding via the scanned list - After the device is added, the Bluetooth Available icon (X) is displayed along with a text ‘Paired’ corresponding to that device Changes When Bluetooth is enabled on a VVX 600, a user can pair their cell phone with the VVX. Calls that come in to the cell phone can be answered on the VVX, and the VVX speaker and microphone can be used instead of the cell phone. The VVX keypad can also be used to send DTMF tones for a cell phone call. Polycom UC Software now allows the user to pair their smartphone with a VVX 600 or VVX 601 phone using the built in Bluetooth radio on the business media phone. The user can answer, reject, or end a call, dial DTMF digits from VVX phones by setting the VVX phones as an audio termination device. Benefits End users can now pair the VVX business media phone with their smartphone device by adding the device from the scanned list. After the device is added, the Bluetooth Available icon (X) is displayed along with a text ‘Paired’ corresponding to that device
8
OpenSIP BroadSoft UX Theme
Functionality When configured, VVX Phones can now show the display with a new set of icons and colors - End users can choose from the following themes: Classic (default), Modern (only on VVX 500/501 and 600/601), BroadSoft (available when signed into your BroadSoft account) Benefits Users get a more consistent look and feel between their BroadSoft client and their VVX Pain Point Broadsoft is one of our major call control partner. They have developed their own soft client that customers are deploying, and to help present a single user experience to our end customers, a common theme is required. Changes When configured, VVX Phones can now show the display with a new set of icons and colors. UI flows remain the same (i.e. no change to Soft Keys, call control flows, menu structures etc), but colors, iconography and fonts are updated in line with Broadsoft style. Benefits Users get a more consistent look and feel between their Broadsoft clients and their VVX.

Enhanced 911 Location Support
Functionality This E.911 feature allows the administrator to configure a source from which the phone obtains location information, which allows the phone to share its location details with 911 operators dispatching emergency services – Benefits When someone dials 911 from a VVX phone, UCS now provides an automated determination of the location of phones connected to the enterprise network and presents that information to the Public Safety Answering Point Pain Point In a modern environment, knowing exactly where an emergency call is being made from can save lives as the PSAP operator can dispatch emergency services to exactly the right location without the caller saying anything. Changes This E.911 feature allows the end user to configure a source from which the phone obtains location information, which allows the phone to share its location details with 911 operators dispatching emergency services. The source can be either LLDP-MED, DHCP (via Option 99) or an LIS system such as Redsky. Benefits When someone dials 911 from a VVX phone, UCS now provides an automated determination of the location of phones connected to the enterprise network and presents that information to the Public Safety Answering Point
10
OpenSIP Support for OpenLDAP directory protocol
Functionality End users can now connect phones to a corporate directory server that supports the Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP ) Ability to connect to a corporate directory that makes use of the OpenLDAP protocol Benefits Easy search for contacts in the directory, place calls to directory contacts, and save entries to the local contact directory on the phone Now avoiding to regularly enter username and password Pain Point Currently LDAP support is limited in that sorting can only be done on the server side. Further, every time a user logs on they have to re-enter their credentials for the LDAP server. Changes Client side sorting can be either enabled or disabled through configuration to improve interoperability. Users LDAP credentials can also be stored on the phone in an encrypted format. It is also possible to define a custom URL Location for Installing LDAP Server Certificates Benefits Allows directories that make use of the OpenLDAP protocol to be used. Also allows customer to avoid having to regularly enter their username and password.
11
AS-SIP/MLPP Support Functionality
When configured, VVX phones will now utilize Multi-Level Precedence and Pre-emption as part of the Assured Services – SIP to allow calls to be tagged with a pre-emption level. Benefits Saves time by ensuring important calls can always get through in environments where this is important.
12
Emergency IM Display Functionality
When configured, VVX phones in Genband will now automatically display in an on-screen pop-up any Instant Messages sent to the phone using SIP method Message that has the priority header set to “Emergency” Benefits Improves safety when sending important non- audible message to all users to alert them of an emergency - Allows a switch to send an emergency message to all phones to inform users of an emergency (such as an active shooter in the building) Pain Point In situations where a large number of people need to be alerted about an emergency situation without using an audible alarm, it is useful to use Instant Messaging to pop up something onto a display. At present, instant messages sent to the phone only get shown when the user choses to look at IM Changes Use SIP to send an Instant Message to a phone. If the message has “Emergency” set in the priority header, the VVX will automatically display the message on the phone UI Benefits Allows a switch to send an emergency message to all phones to inform users of an emergency (such as an active shooter).
13
Assign EFK to Line Keys Functionality
Allow Enhanced Feature Keys to be assigned to a line key rather than one of the regular soft keys Benefits Allows more EFKs to be shown on the phone display and reduces the need to have the “More” SK shown Pain Point When creating an EFK, it is currently only possible to assign these EFKs to soft key locations. As we currently have a large number of default SKs, this results in having to dig through layers of menus to reach specific EFKs. Changes Allow Enhanced Feature Keys to be assigned to a line key rather than one of the regular soft keys Benefits Allows more EFKs to be shown on the phone display and reduces the need to have the “More” SK shown
14
User Control of Acoustic Fence
Functionality A new menu in the Basic -> Preferences menu has been added to allow a user to turn acoustic fence on or off for either the Headset or Handset terminations. Also, the default state for Acoustic Fence has been changed from “Disabled” to “Enabled” Benefits Improves productivity and gives end user control by enabling the acoustic fence feature without admin intervention, while still allowing them to disable the feature if circumstances require it Pain Point When Acoustic Fence is enabled through configuration, it is not possible for the user to turn the feature off. This can make it harder to demonstrate the feature Changes A new menu in the Basic Preferences menu has been added to allow a user to turn acoustic fence on or off for either the Headset or Handset terminations. Also, the default state for Acoustic Fence has been changed from “Disabled” to “Enabled”. Benefits Gives the user control over the Acoustic Fence feature.
15
New UI for Off hook dialing
Functionality When configured, VVX Phones now remain on the idle line view when the phone goes off hook. They may make a call directly from a speed dial, or start to type digits. Once digits are entered, the display switches to show the normal dialer screen. If all the digits are deleted, the screen reverts back to the idle display. Benefits Users can make calls via speed dials without having to take an extra step. In addition, during a transfer or conference, the user can select a speed dial or BLF directly, improving the speed and accuracy of these actions Pain Point As soon as a user goes off hook, they lose sight of their speed dials, BLFs etc. The only way to get back is to press another key, which is not the most intuitive behavior. Changes When configured, VVX Phones now remain on the idle line view when the phone goes off hook. They may make a call directly from a speed dial, or start to type digits. Once digits are entered, the display switches to show the normal dialer screen. If all the digits are deleted, the screen reverts back to the idle display. Benefits Users can quickly make calls from speed dials without having to take an extra step. Also, during a transfer or conference, the user can select a speed dial or BLF directly, improving the speed and accuracy of these actions.
16
New UI for in-progress calls
Functionality When configured, VVX Phones now show the call information (Line, To/From and Call Duration) in the top ribbon. Still possible to see the stacked call list or the full screen view by swiping right to left Benefits Allows users of the VVX phones the ability to see the status of all lines while improving their productivity while in an active call without having to interact with the phone UI. Note that this feature was previously available only on VVX 50x/60x phones Pain Point Once a call is initiated, the VVX display shows only the active call information – either in a stacked call list or taking up the entire screen. Details of BLF states or activity on other lines can not be seen. Changes When configured, VVX Phones now show the call information (Line, To/From and Call Duration) in the top ribbon. Still possible to see the stacked call list or the full screen view by swiping right to left. Benefits Users can easily see what the status of any particular shared line or BLF is without having to swipe or take any action on the display. NOTE: VVX 500 and VVX 600 only at this point.
17
Factory Reset Without Admin Password
Functionality Provide a user interface to allow a regular user to reset a phone to factory defaults without the need to know the administrator password Benefits Improves productivity and saves time for the end users by allowing them to reset their VVX phone to factory defaults in the event of a problem without having to send an administrator to the phone or handing out the administrator password to the end user Pain Point In some deployments, the service provider needs the phone to be reset to factory defaults. At present, this would require someone with the admin password going to that user and resetting the phone. Changes Provide a user interface to allow a regular user to reset a phone to factory defaults without the need to know the administrator password. Benefits Allows service providers to get phones reset to defaults without needing to send and admin on site.
18
DNS Cache Override of network DNS (A-Record)
Functionality It is now possible for VVX phones to use cached DNS records rather than relying on the A-records obtained from a network DNS Benefits Aids in managing redundancy servers by allowing the URL address of the local gateway to be stored in the phones configuration as a locally cached address. Saves time while using the cached DNS records Pain Point There needs to be a mechanism for the phone override the results of a DNS query with a locally cached value. Changes It is now possible for VVX phones to use cached DNS records rather than relying on the A-records obtained from a network DNS. Benefits Aids in managing redundancy servers by allowing the URL address of the local gateway to be stored in the phones configuration as a locally cached address. Not that this will only work so long as the name does not resolve in a standard DNS query
