What are Charts and Graphs?
Charts and graphs are pictures that people have developed to show information quickly. Charts help all of us keep our eyes on everyday life; like food labels, sports, or our favorite computer games.

Types of Graphs There are several types of graphs. Circle or pie graphs Pictograph Bar graph Line graph

Circle or Pie Graph This graph shows parts of a whole. It might show Super Bowl victories.

Pictograph This graph uses pictures. Each picture represents a certain number of people or things. Food pictures might be used to show what lunch our class likes to eat at Glencliff Elementary.

Bar Graph This graph uses bars to show and compare the total number of things. A bar graph could show each persons favorite color in this class.

Line Graph This graph can show changes over time. A line graph could show how many inches a student grows from pre-kindergarten through 4th grade.

Investigation Our class will investigate all types of information around us. We get to choose our investigation. What will we do today? What type of chart and graph will you choose? Why?
