2. בְּרֵאשִׁ֖ית בָּרָ֣א אֱלֹהִ֑ים
1:1. In the beginning God created

3. אֵ֥ת הַשָּׁמַ֖יִם
the heavens

4. וְאֵ֥ת הָאָֽרֶץ
and the earth

5. וְהָאָ֗רֶץ הָיְתָ֥ה
1:2 And the earth was

6. תֹ֙הוּ֙ וָבֹ֔הוּ
unformed and void

7. וְחֹ֖שֶׁךְ עַל־פְּנֵ֣י תְה֑וֹם
and darkness was on
the surface of the deep

8. וְר֣וּחַ אֱלֹהִ֔ים מְרַחֶ֖פֶת
and the spirit of the Lord hovered

9. עַל־פְּנֵ֥י הַמָּֽיִם.
upon the face of the water.

10. וַיֹּ֥אמֶר אֱלֹהִ֖ים
1:3 And God said

11. יְהִ֣י א֑וֹר
“let there be light”

12. וַֽיְהִי ־אֽוֹר
and there was light.

13. וַיַּ֧רְא אֱלֹהִ֛ים אֶת־הָא֖וֹר
1:4 And God saw the light

14. כִּי־ ט֑וֹב
that it was good.

15. וַיַּבְדֵּ֣ל אֱלֹהִ֔ים
and God separated
