1 Acts 2:37-39 37When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?”

2 Acts 2:37-39 38Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

3 Acts 2:37-39 39The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off – for all whom the Lord our God will call.”

The miracles were done right in front of them and could not be denied.

10 Jesus was put to death (vs. 23)
God knew it would happen and it was a part of His purpose. Isaiah 53: Yet it was the Lord’s will to crush him and cause him to suffer, and though the Lord makes his life an offering for sin,

11 he will see his offspring and prolong his days, and the will of the Lord will prosper in his hand. 11After he has suffered, he will see the light of life and be satisfied; by his knowledge my righteous servant will justify many, and he will bear their iniquities. 12Therefore I will give him a portion among the great,

12 and he will divide the spoils with the strong, because he poured out his life unto death, and was numbered with the transgressors. For he bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors. They couldn’t deny His death or their involvement.

13 Jesus was raised from the dead (vs. 24)
Peter offered 3 proofs – King David’s prophecy (vs ) Eyewitness testimony (vs. 32) Outpouring of the Spirit (vs. 33)

14 Jesus was exalted as Lord and Christ
Exalted to the right hand of God, he has received from the Father the promised Holy Spirit and has poured out what you now see and hear. (Acts 2:33)

15 IV. The response: The Reaction
When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?” (Acts 2:37 NIV)

16 Obedience is not inconsistent with salvation by faith.
Romans 1:5 Through him we received grace and apostleship to call all the Gentiles to the obedience that comes from faith for his name’s sake.

18 The Reply They were told to repent (vs. 38) Which is what Jesus wanted His followers to proclaim – Luke 24:46-47 They were told to be baptized (vs. 38) Which is what Jesus wanted His followers to proclaim - Matt. 28:19; Mark 16:15-16

19 The Result 3000 gladly received His word and were baptized (vs. 41) They had their sins forgiven They received the gift of the Holy Spirit They were “added” by the Lord to His church, (vs. 41; vs. 47)

20 Conclusion: When the gospel is shared what should people do? Believe
Repent Be Baptized

21 The gospel has always been the “joy story”!
