Hot and Cold Can Experiment
Experiment Completed by Melina Nguyen, Aleta Nelson, Zawshajnai Davis
2
The Cans Forms of Thermal Energy
To keep the cans warm we used conduction We wrapped it in tin foil and cotton balls to keep the heat from the water in the water To keep the cans cold we used convection We kept the cans cold by putting it closer to the ground because warm air is closer to the top and cold air is closer to the bottom.
3
Total Temperature Changes
Cold Can temperature change was 6 degrees (40-36) Hot Can temperature change was 2 degrees (40-38)
4
Temperature of the Controlled Can vs. the temperature in my Can
At the end the controlled can was 33.4 degrees At the end the cold can was 34 degrees At the end the hot can was 38 degrees This means the cold can didn’t work as good as the cold can This means that the hot can worked

The Hot Can and The Cold Can
10
How Would you Modify your Device to Make it More Effective?
For the cold can we could add a layer of Styrofoam to keep the cold in the water For the hot can we could add a warmer layer of fabric to keep the heat in
11
Examples of my Idea in Real life
In real life the hot can design is used in thermos because the foam in the thermos is like the cotton on the can. The foil is like the aluminum on the outside of the thermos. In real life the cold can is like when it gets to warm in a building you go into the basement to cool down. We used convection (the cool air towards the bottom) to cool the can like the convection cools the basement.
