Progress on Grand Challenge New Horizons for Grand Challenge What parts of the Grand Challenge have been solved? A: Materials properties are largely determined by the dynamics and properties of electrons, including its charge and spin. The development of tools to allow for temporal and spatial information about electrons will be demanding. One of such technical breakthroughs is spin-polarized pulsed scanning transmission electron microscopy which provides temporal and spatial information on spin. Has the focus/scope of the Grand Challenge evolved? A: The focus/scope remains the same, although research has paved forward to address some of the grand challenges. Remaining Challenge Refreshed Grand Challenge? • Does enough remain to be grand? • Is it tractable on the decadal scale or longer?
