Overview Processor Module Options and Selection
External I/0 Connection Interfaces and Selection Updated parts List
3

5
Processor Module 3 BMXP342020: Upgraded Model
Integrated Communication Port: Serial RTU/ASCII Modbus communication with master/slave mode and speed up to 19.2Kbps Ethernet Modbus/TCP, BOOTP/DHCP, FDR Memory: RAM = 4096Kb, Program = 3584 Kb, Memory Card = 8 Mb Standard Cost: $1550
6
Processor Module 4 BMXP342030: Upgraded Model
Integrated Communication Port: CANopen Master allows devices to communicate with a Modbus TCP/IP network through a gateway Ethernet Modbus/TCP, BOOTP/DHCP, FDR Memory: RAM = 4096Kb, Program = 3584 Kb, Memory Card = 8 Mb Standard Cost: $1830
7
Processor Selection Main Difference between models include:
amount of available RAM and Program memory external communication connections and protocols cost After collaborating with Dan Shaughnessy, the base model was determined to meet minimum customer specifications for processor speed, work memory capacity, and external communication setup
8
Processor Module BMXP best cost effective solution, saves Gleason $600 Connection of HMI via Modbus serial link works since display is nothing more than dummy terminal
9
I/O Connection Interfaces
3 systems analyzed: Advantys Telefast ABE7 prewired system Advantys OTB system Advantys STB system All 3 systems are capable of handling multiple communication protocols, some which are unnecessary
10
I/O Interface 1 Advantys Telefast ABE7 pre-wired I/O system – simple plug and play solution, requires PLC card with HE10 connector
11
I/O Interface 2 Advantys OTB – communication using CANopen, Modbus and Ethernet each with 20 I/O directly integrated
12
I/O Interface 3 Advantys STB – allows communication via Modbus, Ethernet, CANopen, Devicenet, Profibus, and Interbus. 32 modules can be connected to a single system
13
Recommendation Advantys Telefast ABE7 pre-wired system offers the most simplicity, power, security, and maintenance for money System is a direct wire up solution eliminating costly work hours to wire up I/O by hand Without system 40+ wires stripped by hand where 8-10 wires can be completed/hr Collaboration with Dan Shaughnessy proved that this system would save the most money and require the least effort to implement in current control setup
14
Advantys Telefast ABE7 options
Many models were analyzed and a choice was made on cost effectiveness, available current output, and mean time before failure (MTBF) for internal relays Possible Systems: ABE7RS2, ABE7R17T111, ABE7P16T111, ABE7P16T2, ABE7P08T3, ABE7R16T2, and ABE7R16T3
15
Advantys Telefast ABE7 options
After looking at available options, one key criterion was output current rating for each system. Solenoid relays are 30W and require 1.25A to operate. Telefast systems rated at higher currents cost considerably more. System was chosen to meet minimum current rating while keeping cost down. MTBF was also considered by analyzing graphs.
16
Solution ABE7R16T111 Uses 20-pin HE 10 connector
Uses 5mm ABR7S11 relays rated at 6A MTBF 1 million cycles Standard Cost:$450
