The diagram of the normal spinal column shows the segmental arrangement (C, cervical; L, lumbar; S, sacral; T, thoracic) and the area of flexors and extensors (FLEX and EXT). Central cord syndrome, anterior cord syndrome, Brown-Séquard syndrome, and posterior cord syndrome are incomplete injuries, with affected areas shaded.
