The Rock Ranch, Barnesville Georgia

2 The Greatest Prom on Earth!!
Step Right Up! Jackson High School is so excited to offer you a great Prom this year at The Rock Ranch in Barnesville, Georgia. Prom comes from the word promenade, the formal introductory parading of guests at a party. It began in the mid- to late 1800s at colleges and universities in the Northeast to promote social etiquette and manners in each year’s graduating class, and over time has become a rite of passage for young people. Long standing traditions include formal attire for both men and women, as well as the expectation to “put on your best behavior and personal presentation!” The faculty here at Jackson High school is proud to offer our students the opportunity to present themselves at their best on this special night! The Greatest Prom on Earth!!

3 Step Right up! This year’s Prom theme is “Under the Big Top.”
Our décor will have the motif of a classic vintage carnival with colors focusing on Red, Black and White. Feel free to dress to coordinate with our event for amazing photo opportunities. Prom souvenirs and memorabilia will continue our theme to provide students with precious memories to treasure for years to come! Step Right up!

12 Dress Code Expectations
Jackson High School prom is an event which reflects the philosophy of our school and our community standards of modesty and professionalism. Among our most important considerations is adherence to a standard of modesty appropriate for high school students. Dress code regulations must be followed by all students attending, Jackson students as well as off-campus guests. Guidelines will be strictly enforced. Students, including guests, not in compliance with Dress Code will not be admitted to the dance and refunds will not be issued. There will NOT be a loaner clothing option. Dress Code Expectations

13 JHS Dress Code Guidelines
Dresses and attire that reflect modesty are required. The most difficult task for administrators and teachers is the determination of modesty. Traditional interpretations are often at odds with fashion and cultural trends. This is easily avoidable if the following guidelines are observed: JHS Dress Code Guidelines

14 Young men are expected to wear formal evening attire that would include a tuxedo, suit with a tie, or sport coat and slacks with a tie. Men may not wear a suit vest without a dress shirt. Men may not wear flip flops or open toed shoes. Gentlemen

15 Acceptable Unacceptable What can I wear?

16 TOPS The neckline of a dress, top, or gown must be cut in a modest way without showing cleavage, either in front OR on the sides of the dress. Spaghetti straps or strapless dresses are allowed, as long as they are not low cut. The cut of a dress in the back and sides must not be cut below the navel (below your elbow). LENGTH A dress, skirt, or gown must be longer than mid-thigh (no higher than three (3) inches from the knee. Slits in a dress/skirt may be no higher than three (3) inches from the knee. Ladies

17 Ladies No navel is allowed to show.
Two piece dresses are allowed if the space between top and skirt is less than two inches. The top must not show any cleavage or have cut outs (halter top style). The bodice of the dress must not have any fabric cutouts in the cleavage area. If elsewhere, it must be covered by netting and less than an inch opening. Dresses should not be excessively tight. No cover-ups (coats, shawls, sweaters) will be allowed over dresses that do not meet dress code. If you are uncertain your dress meets dress code, please seek prior approval from Ms. Sharp in Room 101. All decisions by administration are FINAL. Ladies

18 Acceptable Not Acceptable What can I wear?

19 These dresses would not be acceptable for the following reasons:
More than 2 inches between top and bottom Too much cleavage on the side exposed, and more than two inches in midriff Top is too sheer and exposes lingerie

20 Non Acceptable Dress: Slits too high and neckline too low

21 Still Not Sure? You may text a photo of you in your dress if you are still uncertain your dress will be approved. However, Ms. Sharp’s decision as the principal’s designee is final.

22 Text them to @bigtop1 or email Ms. Sharp at: sharpk@bcssk12.org
If you have additional questions that are not answered in this PowerPoint or in the Prom Guidelines Handout you received when you purchased your prom ticket, please Text them or Ms. Sharp at: Questions?
