1 Validation of a new language screening tool with stroke in chinese: The mandarin version of language screening test (MLAST)  Hongyan Yang, Shenghua Tian, Constance Flamand-Roze, Ling Gao, Wei Zhang, Yan Li, Jiajia Wang, Zhou Sun, Ying Su, Zhihou Liang  Alzheimer's & Dementia: The Journal of the Alzheimer's Association  Volume 11, Issue 7, Pages P820-P822 (July 2015) DOI: /j.jalz Copyright © Terms and Conditions

4 Figure 3 The Y-axis represents true-positive rate, namely sensitivity; the X-axis represents false-positive rate, namely 1-specificity. The blue curve represents MLAST-a; the green curve represents MLAST-b; the off-white curve represents MLAST-a and MLAST-b. The Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve showings the sensibility (true-positive rate) and 1-specificity (false positive rate) of Mandarin versions of Language Screening Test (MLAST) in comparison with the Western Aphasia battery (WAB) used for external validation. The optimal cutoff for the MLAST score corresponds to the angle of the curve in the upper left-hand corner of the diagram When combined with each other, the sensibility and specificity improved. At that point (MLAST-a and MLAST-b<27). specificity' and sensibility Alzheimer's & Dementia: The Journal of the Alzheimer's Association  , P820-P822DOI: ( /j.jalz ) Copyright © Terms and Conditions

5 Figure 4 Y-axis represents aphasia quotient of Western Aphasia Battery (WAB). X-axis represents total score of MLAST-a and total score of MLAST-b. Scatter diagram between Aphasia quotient of WAB and total score of MLAST-a is marked by blue circles: Scatter diagram between Aphasia quotient of WAB and total score of MLAST-b is marked by green circles. Scatter diagram between Western Aphasia Battery (WAB) and total score of MLAST showed good correlation. 6 Figure 5 Histogram represents of the correlation matrix of the Mandarin version of Language Screening Test (MLAST) subtests and corresponding Western Aphasia Battery (WAB) items (p<0.01). MLAST-a is marked by blue color. MLAST-b is marked by purple color. Naming (M-LAST: 5 items/5 points; WAB: 31 items/100 points); Repetition (M-LAST: 2 item/2 point; WAB: 15 items/100 points); Automatic speech (M-LAST: 1 series/1 point; WAB: 1 series/20 points); Picture recognition (M-LAST: 4 items/4 points; WAB: 30 items/120 points); Verbal instructions (M-LAST: 2 orders/2 points; WAB: 11 orders/80 points). 7 Figure 6 Schematic representation of the Mandarin version of Language Screening Test (MLAST) validation process. Each of the enrolled acute(with new stoke in three days) and chronic(10 days after new stroke onset) patients completed the tests of MLAST-a and MLAST-b, and the equivalence between the 2 versions and the internal validity(item analysis, reliability, and factor structure) of each version were assessed in the acute and chronic patients; two examiners were required to give marks simultaneously to the same version 111 the acute stroke patients, and time-taken to accomplish the test was recorded meanwhile, then inter-rater reliability and median time-taken of MLAST were calculated from the acute stroke patients; external validity with respect to Western Aphasia Battery were calculated from the chronic patients (enrolled chronic patients were asked to complete the WAB followed by MLAST-a and MLAST-b on the same day, and WAB and MLAST were administered by 2 different and blinded examiners).
