Lesson 6, Question 1 Team 1/6 CDD Requirements
Good CDD Requirement? Y/N Spec traces to CDD? Y/N Is Related Spec Requirement Good? Y/N Verification Method? Comments (Resolutions for bad CDD and/or Spec requirements or other recommendations) (6.b.1.b.) Control. The UGV shall be capable of conducting operations by remote control using line-of-sight communications. (6.b.1.d.) Range. The UGV shall have a range of not less than 10 km (threshold), 30 km objective) [KPP]. (6.b.1.f.) IFF Accuracy. The UGV shall be capable of identifying friendly targets with a single target accuracy of 0.90 (threshold), 0.99 (objective). (6.b.1.h.) Transportability. The UGV shall be capable of being moved within theater by C-130 (threshold/objective).

Lesson 6, Question 1 Team 2 CDD Requirements Good CDD Requirement? Y/N
Spec traces to CDD? Y/N Is Related Spec Requirement Good? Y/N Verification Method? Comments (Resolutions for bad CDD and/or Spec requirements or other recommendations) (6.b.1.c.) Speed. Speed and ease of operation are closely intertwined. The system shall be capable of moving at a speed of 15 kph (threshold), 40 kph (objective). (6.b.1.e.) Terrain. The UGV shall be capable of operating across grass, dirt and loose sand and climb inclines up to 15 degrees (threshold), 30 degrees (objective). (6.b.1.g.) Automatic fire override. The UGV shall automatically override any firing command, stop, and provide a message should the IFF system detect a friendly target. (6.b.2.a.) Mine Detection. The system shall be capable of warning the operator of a buried mine so that the operator may take actions to avoid running over the mine. The UGV shall be capable of locating buried mines with a single-mine detection reliability of .95 (threshold), .99 (objective) [KPP].

Lesson 6, Question 1 Team 3 CDD Requirements Good CDD Requirement? Y/N
Spec traces to CDD? Y/N Is Related Spec Requirement Good? Y/N Verification Method? Comments (Resolutions for bad CDD and/or Spec requirements or other recommendations) (6.b.1.a) Laser Attack Pk. The UGV shall be capable of lasering a target to allow an airborne unit to launch one or more weapons with a probability of kill of 0.75 (threshold), 0.90 (objective). [KPP] (6.b.1.i.) Self Defense. The UGV shall be capable of self-defense using organic direct fire weaponry small arms automatic weapon (threshold), missile/rocket (objective). (6.b.2.b.) Terrain. The UGV shall be capable of maneuvering over small obstacles and around large obstacles while conducting this mission. (14.a.) Infrastructure Support. Vehicles must be supportable by current and projected combat support and service support assets. Forces must be transportable in an operational configuration in strategic and tactical air transportation aircraft. Systems must also be capable of transport on unrestricted highway, rail, maritime prepositioned ships, amphibious ships, amphibious landing craft, and other marine transport worldwide.

Lesson 6, Question 1 Team 4 CDD Requirements Good CDD Requirement? Y/N
Spec traces to CDD? Y/N Is Related Spec Requirement Good? Y/N Verification Method? Comments (Resolutions for bad CDD and/or Spec requirements or other recommendations) (14.b.) Manpower and Personnel. A primary goal is to reduce the number of personnel involved in hazardous operations (e.g., RSTA and mine detection), and thus to cut casualties. Maintenance of UGV shall require no skills not already in existence within the Army, Marine Corps, or Air Force personnel structures. (14.d.) Environmental. Must comply with all U.S. environmental regulations and with all international environmental protocols and treaties to which the U.S. is a signatory. (14.e.4.) Transportation. The UGV shall be capable of transportation to the theater of operation in standard shipping containers. These containers shall be selected from the existing government inventory. Once in theater, UGV shall be capable of rapid deployment to forward operating areas. (14.e.6.) Maintenance and Operations. The UGV will have three categories of maintenance: organization, intermediate and depot level. The system shall not require the use of highly educated or trained personnel for its operation or for organizational maintenance.

Lesson 6, Question 1 Team 5 CDD Requirements Good CDD Requirement? Y/N
Spec traces to CDD? Y/N Is Related Spec Requirement Good? Y/N Verification Method? Comments (Resolutions for bad CDD and/or Spec requirements or other recommendations) (14.e.3.a.) UGV must be capable of conducting operations in all applicable operational environments, including hot, basic, and cold climates. Environmental conditions include electronic and electromagnetic environments. (14.e.5.) Supportability. The UGV shall be supported over its life cycle by replacing individual parts as they wear out. The system is expected to be in service for a period of 15 years and shall be designed for a minimum service life of 15 years. (14.e.7.) Readiness/Operational Availability Measures. Fully mission capable (FMC) and mission capable (MC) rates will be the measures employed to assess system readiness/operational availability. FMC is the percentage of time during which the system is capable of performing all assigned missions; MC is the percentage of time during which the system is capable of performing at least one of its assigned missions. Actual FMC and MC rates are evolving requirements and will be the subject of the next CDD review. (14.e.8.) Combat Support Requirements. The UGV shall be capable of battlefield damage repair in the field using currently available tools and repair techniques.

TMRR Vehicle Risks/Issues
2. What are the risks and/or issues associated with your two vehicle platforms taken into the TMRR phase? Use the data from “Early Competitive Prototyping Test Status” (see artifacts), findings from Dragonfly M&S (if available; using same baseline vehicle configurations from Exercise 5 in both the “Minefield Transit” and “Interoperability (Passive) AC-130 Gunship” Dragonfly Scenarios), and your experiences and/or background to identify potential risks and/or issues. Tracked Vehicle: Wheeled Vehicle: Hover Vehicle: As discussed in the MSA Exercise, for the MSA and TMRR exercises teams should focus efforts on “Mine Detection” and “Interoperability (Passive): AC-130 Gunship” scenarios when using Dragonfly.

TMRR Platform Design Comparison Criteria
3. a. Identify at least four important platform performance criteria (likely consider KPPs and/or KSAs) that you can use to compare the alternatives. Then considering the risks and/or issues from the previous slides, rank order the platforms to allow you to select the best one to take forward into the EMD acquisition phase. b. Provide your assumptions and associated rationale supporting your selections. c. Use a weighting factor of 60% for Performance / 30% for Cost / 10% for Schedule.
9
TMRR Platform Design Comparisons
Describe the results of your platform design comparisons and identify which platform will be taken forward into the EMD phase. Explain why you selected these performance criteria as critical to the mission(s). Change/expand chart as needed: TMRR Phase Comparisons Criteria Weight Factor Platform #1 Platform #2 PERFORMANCE: .60 TOTAL COST: .30 SCHEDULE: .10 TOTAL SCORE:

Technical Reviews/Assessments
a. Given these phase reviews/assessments, what is their purpose? b. What entrance/exit criteria would you propose for these Bull Dog reviews? Team #1 Team #2 Team #3 Team #4 Team #5 Team #6 TRA X CDD Validation SRR SFR PDR DRFPRD Remind the students about the sample Technical Review checklists and data sheets provided on the Student CD. The DAG is of course another great source for info.

Technical Management Processes
5. Relate the following Technical Management Processes to what you do at work (Briefer pick one). Decision Analysis Technical Planning Technical Assessment Requirements Management Risk Management Configuration Management Data Management Interface Management Note: You must relate the above processes to your work tasks. Keep your answers top level. You do not have to tie your answers into this lesson exercise.
