Before 1967, all abortions in the UK were illegal? Abortions are always legal in the UK? Abortions are legal under 24 weeks in the UK under certain circumstances. A doctor or nurse does not have to help or carry out an abortion if they do not want to? An abortion can be carried out using medication or by having a surgical procedure? A doctor must agree to the abortion? An abortion can take place after 24 weeks if the woman’s life is in danger or if there is a substantial risk that the baby could be severely physically or mentally disabled? All abortions must be carried out in a hospital or specialist licensed clinic? In 2011, there were 91,000 abortions carried out in England and Wales?
