Pay attention and follow along! While reading, annotate about your questions. Include words you may not know and other questions you may have. Record this under W in your KWL chart. Be prepared to discuss your questions with the class.

NM- collect and put up notebooks. Under the L in your KWL chart, summarize you learning for today. What new knowledge do you have? Be prepared to share out with the class.

Flashbacks Journal In Greek mythology, Pandora was a woman who let her curiosity get the best of her. She opened a box that she was told not to open. This released many ills, such as war and sorrow upon the world. The phrase “Pandora’s box” is still used today. It refers to something that could have many bad effects and would be better left alone or “unopened”. What is the main idea of this passage? Curiosity leads to trouble. The phrase “Pandora’s Box” comes from Greek mythology. The problems in today’s world can be blamed on Pandora. Imagine you are speaking to an alien who has never seen or used a computer. Explain the purpose of computers to the alien giving as much detail as possible. Jobs: Agenda- Check NM- pass out notebooks Distributors- pass out passages

Read “Searching For Survivors” in the packet given to you. DL- Make sure your group is paying attention and following along! While reading, annotate your connections to this passage. Think about other texts you have read, what the passage reminds you of, etc. After reading, share out with your group. Answer questions in your notebooks. Once finished, tear these answers out and make sure your name is on your paper at the top right corner. Jobs: Collectors- Collect the passages and return to Mrs. Newkirk. MM- Collect the answers from your group and turn into the tray.

(SPAM- Situation, Purpose, Audience, Mode) Complete a pre-writing. Complete a rough-draft. Revise and edit as needed. Collectors- Collect and return ODW prompt papers to Mrs. Newkirk.

Turn in Quiz and Answer Sheets to Mrs. Newkirk. Get a copy of the ODW prompt and complete work begun yesterday. Read and annotate the prompt given to to you in your notebooks. (SPAM- Situation, Purpose, Audience, Mode) Complete a pre-writing. Complete a rough-draft. Revise and edit as needed.
