1 M. Sc. (Engg.) in Signal Processing and Communication Technologies
Pre-Project Presentation Design and Development of EM imaging system guided by Digital Beam Forming and wave pattern studies Varun Arur CFB , FT10 M. Sc. (Engg.) in Signal Processing and Communication Technologies Proposed Academic Guides : Dr. Govind R Kadambi Mrs. Preetham Shankpal Industrial Guide/s :

2 Aim of the Project To design and develop a simulation model of Electro- Magnetic imaging system guided by Digital Beam Forming and radiation pattern studies

3 Project Objectives To review literature on EM systems, Through Wall Imaging concepts, Wall and Scatterer modeling, electromagnetic wave propagation through any given media and Digital Beam forming To also understand techniques for wall, clutter, phase, velocity, motion and reflection compensation To arrive at an appropriate functional block diagram for Through Wall Imaging and Digital Beam forming 2D UWB Antenna array with beam steering to scan a 3D space and obtain the radiation pattern To model the input to the Wall and the Scatterers (stationary and moving) behind the wall To obtain and analyze electromagnetic field patterns along the path of transmitter-wall and back to the receiver To develop high an images of behind the wall scenarios using the received signals To simulate the entire system for various test conditions and validate the results

4 Methods and Methodology
To carry out a critical literature review on EM systems, radiation pattern for planar arrays from the available documents To carry out literature review on Digital Beam forming techniques To carry out literature review on wall modelling, multiple reflections and electromagnetic wave propagation through walls To design and simulate a 2D array antenna appropriate for TWI imaging To design and simulate input waveforms along with Digital Beamforming to scan a 3D space (weight and sum DBF)

5 Methods and Methodology
To carry out modelling of the wall and scatterers (target/clutter) in stationary or moving modes To simulate wave propagation through the wall and targets along both the azimuth and elevation angles To develop and implement algorithms for wall, multiple reflections and phase compensation To develop and implement image processing algorithm to obtain images of behind the wall scenario To test the developed model for varying test conditions To evaluate and validate the results
