1 Writing Skills

2 Sometimes when we are asked to write something we can stall and get stuck! But if you plan your work, then the rest comes easy! Think about it like this; you need four wheels to make a car drive smoothly and steadily. Think about each wheel as an idea. This method can be applied to the writing of many texts. For example, letters, speeches, reviews, feature articles and many others!

3 Choose a hero who you think deserves an award
Choose a hero who you think deserves an award. See my example for Malala Yousafzai. Who is Malala Yousafazai? Significant achievements Why her work is important Overall, why I think she deserve the Hero award

4 Have a few minutes to think about who you would nominate as a Hero
Have a few minutes to think about who you would nominate as a Hero. Then make each wheel a different aspect of what you could say about them. Copy and paste the wheel from the document and write your responses next to them, as demonstrated in the example. Have more ideas? That’s OK! I carry a spare! Just add another wheel and add your idea.

5 1st, 2nd, 3rd person narration
Now you have put the wheels on the car! You still need to make them go! To go, they need to have information. The more information you give, the better and faster those wheels will go! Think of the writing techniques that make a piece of writing interesting. High Modality Emotive language Similes Metaphors Repetition 1st, 2nd, 3rd person narration Rhetorical Questions Facts Anecdotes

6 Now use them to make your car go
Now use them to make your car go! See the example, what writing techniques can you identify? Malala Yousafzai is an inspiration to females all over the world. Mala is only 17 years old and she achieved more for the world than most people will ever hope to achieve in their lifetime. She was born in Pakistan and now lives in Britain. So what is so special about Malala Yousafzai? She is the youngest person ever to win a Nobel Prize Award. I believe that she deserves to be globally recognised as a hero for all of her work and that is why I believe she should be awarded the Hero Award.

7 Have a go at making your wheels go by detailing information and using writing techniques.
Do not give up until you reach the finish line! To reach the finish line, you need to have 4-5 complete sentences per idea!

8 Of course, you wouldn’t take a car our for a race without having it checked over first. Have it checked by the person next to you. They will be your ‘mechanic’ and check your work to see what is good to go and what might need improving. Here is a list of things that need to be checked before you race on to the end: Four paragraphs Each paragraph has four to five complete sentences A variety of writing techniques are used Spelling and punctuation are correct Report:______________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________
