7. SAMPLE INFORMATIONAL WRITING PIECE
Introduction: Tigers are very fascinating animals, but they have been becoming endangered over the years. Within this essay, I will focus on reasons for so many tiger deaths, what people have been doing to help this problem, and what environmentalists predict for tigers in the future. Body: To begin, tigers are dying for two main reasons. One is illegal hunting. People like to shoot tigers for their fur and teeth. According to the text by Smith, “Many people in Indonesia use tiger fur for rugs which they make much money selling on the black market. There are also myths that the teeth are useful as medicine.” Tigers are also dying from loss of their habitat. This happens when people build homes and businesses where tigers live. This makes it hard for them to find food and shelter. Environmentalists have been working hard to solve this problem in the following ways. For example, they are making tougher penalties for those hunting tigers. They are also creating safe zones for tigers where tigers are watched with video cameras to keep an eye on their numbers. Finally, environmentalists predict tiger numbers will increase again. It is believed that in 10 years their numbers will be closer to what they were fifty years ago, before this problem became so severe. Conclusion: In conclusion, tiger numbers may not be what they should be because of the illegal hunting and loss of their habitat. However, there is help for the tigers which seems to be working. Hopefully, these beautiful animals will remain with us for many years to come.
