Issues Before the Working Group
What is a “community school” or a “neighborhood school”? What makes programs stronger or weaker? Does larger numbers necessarily make for stronger programs? With most schools in the study area being older, less flexible structures, and the Board having no capital to spend on modernizing them, how do we match the structures and their capacities with the desires of the neighborhoods?

“How do you feel about these options for reducing the student population?”

Board Staff Proposed Solutions
Staff was asked to start the conversation with two theoretical proposals. Goals: Re-balance populations so that 2015 capacities in all schools are roughly 100% Address program weaknesses by consolidating smaller populations into bigger ones Result: Scenarios A and B (summary follows)

Where Hopewell/OSCA Reps Stand
Opposed to both Scenarios A and B Want to keep all 3 streams at Hopewell in some form, and have proposed a model that does that Lots of discussion and debate ahead; we will have another community meeting soon after next meeting, early in June We need your input on what trade-offs would be acceptable
